Re: Marc Lamont Hill, Ph.D. [D.O.B. 12/17/1978]
Cc: []

Recent activity undermines worriment that ignoring this issue would allow it to dematerialized; indeed,
recently, it was observed that pressure upon Temple administrators can be exerted most effectively
simply by recalling the-power-of-the-purse, here, by appealing to PA-legislators that control its funding…

Senate : https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/cteeInfo/Index.cfm?CteeBody=S&Code=3
House https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/cteeInfo/Index.cfm?CteeBody=H&Code=4

…and by recognizing the necessity to coalesce a team-effort prior to the Trustee meeting in a fortnight.
I’ve been coordinating via the local/national ZOA during the entire past three-months, but awareness of
the AIC emerged recently; to my knowledge, no other entity has forged a leadership position in Philly.

The former entity can be contacted locally @ 610-660-9466 and nationally @ 212-481-1500; noting the
acute interest in this issue by its National President [Mort Klein] who is a native Philadelphian [after having
arrived from Europe], I suspect he would WELCOME any input via his cell-‘phone @ 917-974-8795.

The latter entity can be contacted directly by noting its superb appended letter/appendix; they convey
both the clear message and its smooth presentation. Although it has been reformatted [by inserting them
into this note], the originals have been uploaded for those who wish to review them independently:

IAC letter https://tinyurl.com/yxuahn7q pages 2-4

IAC data https://tinyurl.com/yyxk2anp pages 5-10

[The prior articles c/o the ZOA have been provided and many are archived @ http://www.ZOA.org.]

{Again, I’ve tried to ensure that a complete database has been disseminated to y’all, even as they have
been independently been compiled; I’ll continue to play this role, but UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES is it
appropriate to view it as supplanting the heartfelt initiatives being conducted by others. Send it to me,
and I’ll send it out to everyone [including the extensive “bcc” list] expeditiously. My viewpoint is obvious.}

The man foments violence and should be fired forthwith; indeed, his dean should be investigated for his
having failed to convey an appropriate backgrounder to the Board [and to others?] prior to his arrival.
One wonders about the motives of the latter individual (for we know what animates the former).

The IAC letter only lacks the probe that I provided initially that was based on the contract and on the
inability to invoke speech-/academic-freedom [as also conveyed in the two op-eds, with Lynne Lechter];
otherwise, it enhances a compelling case to fire him immediately, notwithstanding any intent to “study.”

To:
Honorable Attorney General, Josh Shapiro
1600 Arch Street
Suite 300
Philadelphia, PA 19103

From: Israeli American Council, Philadelphia, PA

Dear Attorney General Shapiro:

We are members of the Jewish community in Philadelphia metro area, and are writing to express our deep
concern over Temple University’s continued employment of Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, a professor and Steve
Charles Chair in Media Studies. We respectfully seek to schedule a meeting with you within the next two
weeks to discuss this important issue.

About Temple University’s Legal and Moral Responsibilities

In November 2005, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights recognized that anti-Israel and anti-Zionist
sentiment can cross the line into anti-Semitism, and in the Commission’s words, “should be distinguished
from legitimate discourse regarding foreign policy.” The Commission clearly stated: “Anti-Semitic bigotry
is no less morally deplorable when camouflaged as anti-Israelism or anti-Zionism.” The Commission
specifically called on university administrations to publicly speak out and “set a moral example by
denouncing anti-Semitic and other hate speech, while safeguarding all rights protected under the First
Amendment and under basic principles of academic freedom.” The U.S. Department of Education’s Office
on Civil Rights has made the same recommendation to university administrations.

In March 2008, the U.S. State Department issued a detailed report on anti-Semitism globally, recognizing
that anti-Zionist sentiment and criticism of Israel can cross the line into anti-Jewish bigotry. Whether
intended or not, such sentiment and criticism can have the effect of promoting prejudice against Jews. As
an example, the State Department noted that demonizing Israel and/or Israelis “as barbaric, unprincipled,
selfish, inhumane, etc. is anti-Semitic and has the effect of causing audiences to associate those bad
attributes with Jews in general.” This is often referred to as the 3-D methodology – Demonization,
Delegitimization and Double-Standards. This type of anti-Semitism is no less hurtful or harmful than more
traditional forms of anti-Jewish bigotry, and universities such as Temple University have the moral and
legal obligation to address it when it occurs.

Anti-Semitism is on the Rise Nationally

Anti-Semitism is an urgent and compounding problem across the nation. Jewish hate crime victims,
totaling 664 in 2015 according to the FBI’s Hate Crime Report, outnumber victims of all other religious
groups combined (580 victims). A Brandeis Center-Trinity College study found that 54 percent of Jewish
students reported experiencing or witnessing anti-Semitism in 2014. And the situation is getting worse.
An AMCHA Initiative study reports a 45 percent increase in anti-Semitic incidents in the first half of 2016
as compared to the same period in 2015.

2
Temple University Should Condemn Anti-Semites, Not Employ Them

Despite the ready availability of evidence of his anti-Jewish bigotry, Temple University (TU) nevertheless
hired and promoted Dr. Hill. (See Appendix). TU’s leadership has since then failed to address forcefully
the outrageous statements made by Dr. Hill, such as his widely publicized speech at the United Nations,
where he echoed calls for to annihilation of the Jewish State.

In the aftermath of Dr. Hill’s UN speech, CNN fired him from his position as a network commentator.
Temple University, on the other hand, failed to take any significant action. This includes a failure by
Temple University’s administration to exercise its own right to free speech. At the least, administrators
should have forcefully and publicly condemned Dr. Hill’s anti-Semitic statements and put the student
population on guard against the presence of bigoted propaganda on campus. Whether intended or not,
Temple University has instead sent the message that Dr. Hill’s promotion of hateful lies about the Jewish
state is acceptable and anti-Jewish bigotry is tolerated on the campus.

Dr. Hill’s Rhetoric is Unquestionably Anti-Semitic

Dr. Hill’s remarks have frequently crossed the line into anti-Semitism, based upon the commonly-accepted
IHRA definition of anti-Semitism, which the United States government likewise uses. Hill systematically
promotes classic anti-Semitic canards, uses blood libels, intentionally spreads falsehoods, justifies terror
and promotes violence at conferences sponsored by groups with documented ties to terrorist
organizations (See Appendix). Rejecting the idea of peaceful protest, Hill unabashedly justifies the killing
of innocent Israelis, promotes violence and calls for the annihilation of the Jewish state. He associates
with vile anti-Semites like Louis Farrakhan, and even Palestinian-Arab terrorists who have served time in
jail for murdering and maiming innocent civilians.

Dr. Hill is a Danger to Naïve Students

Dr. Hill’s position as a professor provides him the opportunity to indoctrinate uninformed and
unsuspecting students with a negative view of Jewish persons and Israel. Providing such an anti-Semite
with a platform at a state university is not consistent with the public policy and moral values of
Pennsylvania. While diversity of opinions is encouraged in academic institutions, this principle is
delegitimized by the tolerance of a professor who endorses violence, justifies the murder of innocent
civilians, and advocates for the annihilation of a nation and its people. Anti-Semitism should be treated
the same as any other form of racism, and such an individual should not be permitted to teach in any
academic institution funded by taxpayers.

Hill’s Presence on Campus Negatively Impacts the Learning Environment

The tolerance of Dr. Hill’s anti-Semitic rhetoric negatively impacts Temple University’s campus culture and
learning environment, where pro-Israel and Jewish students and faculty feel intimidated and at times
unsafe. We are deeply concerned by this situation, and feel diminished by its tolerance. As citizens of
Pennsylvania we wish to respectfully request that you investigate this matter, and specifically examine
whether Temple University’s tolerance of anti-Jewish bigotry might be in violation of the laws of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Appendix

Documented evidence regarding Marc Lamont Hill

1. Marc Hill associates with the vile anti Semite Louis Farrakhan

Marc Hill has a close association with Louis Farrakhan, the Nation of Islam founder whom the ADL has
called the “leading anti-Semite in America”. Farrakhan once called Adolf Hitler “a great man,” and
recently, he compared Jews to “termites.” In August 2016, Hill uploaded onto Instagram a picture of the
two smiling together. His caption read, “Been blessed to spend the day with Minister Louis Farrakhan. An
amazing time of learning, listening, laughing.”

2. Marc Hill echoed the call of Hamas terrorist organization to annihilate the Jewish state, in his
UN speech in 2018

On Nov. 28, 2018, in a prepared speech at the United Nation, Marc Lamont Hill advocated the use of
actions toward the goal of “free Palestine from the River to the Sea”. Hill’s decision to use the chant
employed by genocidal terror groups such as Hamas that call for the destruction of the Jewish state, led
CNN to fire him from a position of a commentator.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDtRdIpFy7c

3. Marc Hill accuses the Jewish state of training New York police in killing black people - an anti
Semitic false accusation

In the “breakfast club” talk, published on Dec 14 2018, when Hill was asked why he does not focus on
domestic civil rights issues of black people, he said: “The New York City police, they’re killing us, but
they’re being trained by Israeli security forces…They’re being trained — New York City police and in other
cities as well. So here’s a connection between the two. I can’t stop one without the other, there’s a
relationship.”

5
Hill’s anti-Semitic accusation that the Jewish State trains police in USA in killing black people was also
connected with his calls for elimination of the Jewish state in his UN speech on November 28, 2018 (see
link in #2). Hill said: “We saw the connection between the police in New York city who has been trained
by Israeli soldiers, and the type of policing we are experiencing in New York city. We began to see
relationship of resistance, and we began to build and struggle and organize together. That spirit of
solidarity, a solidarity bound not only in ideology but in action is the way out…That will gives us what
justice requires, and that is Free Palestine from the River to the Sea.

4. In a USCPR conference Marc Hill advocated use of violence, spread false information and
accused the Jewish state of poisoning the Palestinian water- echoing blood libel anti Semitism

Marc Hill was a speaker at a conference of “US campaign for Palestinian rights” (USCPR) an umbrella group
leading BDS movement, which was held on September 28-30, 2018 in St Paul. In an audio recording of
Lamont Hill’s remarks there, he can be heard using his anti-Israel propaganda and lies to advocate for
violence. Hill said: “And how can you romanticize nonviolence when you have a state that is at all moments
waging war against you; against your bodies; poisoning your water, limiting your access to water; locking
up your children, killing…” (See the links below). Hill further stated: "we have allowed this nonviolent
thing to become so normative that we're undermining our own ability to resist in real robust ways."

By urging Palestinians and their supporters to forget about peaceful means and to “resist in real robust
ways,” Marc Hill is now advocating for the use of terrorism he justified in the past, namely, killing of
innocent people by radical Muslim terrorists (see evidence of Hill support to terrorism in # 5-11)

5. Marc Hill is involved with a terrorist affiliated organization: American Muslim for Palestine
(AMP)

American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) is the leading organization that promotes extreme anti-Zionist
training and education to students and Muslim community organizations in the country. It has also
provided a platform for anti Semitism under the guise of education for Palestinian rights. AMP seeks to
delegitimize and demonize the Jewish state. Leaders and senior members of AMP were involved, directly
and indirectly, in providing funding assistance to Hamas. The funding activity took place through the Holy
Land Foundation, which was the subject of US Treasury designations. As a result of this activity, and
through the Islamic Association of Palestine (IAP), which a Federal court determined provided assistance
to Hamas.

AMP has made significant efforts to coordinate activities on college and university campuses in recent
years, becoming a major facilitator of hatred directed to the Jewish state on US campuses including
Temple University.

Marc Hill spoke at the 2018 AMP New Jersey Banquet dinner. In the links below Hill can be heard asserting
that Zionism is “evil”, refers to the legacy of Malcolm X as he calls for unification of black Americans,
Palestinian, Latin American and Asian American in a struggle against the Jewish state.

6. During a visit in Nazareth, in the state of Israel, Marc Hill said: “we are in Palestine which has
been stolen by greed and destroyed by hate”

In 2015 in a Palestine Solidarity “revolutionary struggle” video filmed inside Israel, Hill declared that we’re
here in “Palestine,” which “has been stolen by greed and destroyed by hate,” and falsely accused Israel of
writing laws “in the blood of the innocent.” Hill calling “Israel” “Palestine” is consistent with his later calls
to “free Palestine from the river to the sea”, namely, elimination of the Jewish state (see #2).

7. Marc Hill lamented the fact that Iron dome takes away the military leverage of Hamas terrorist
organization in 2014

In a discussion on the August 4 2014 edition of CNN Newsroom, Hill critiqued Israel’s Iron Dome system,
almost lamenting the fact that it has limited Israeli deaths, leading to the disproportionate outcome of
the war. He absurdly claimed: “But what the Iron Dome does is it also takes away all of Hamas's military
leverage”

8. Marc Hill appeared to justify the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli boys in 2014

Lamont Hill justified, as a CNN commentator on July 26 2014, the kidnappings and murders of three Israeli
boys (June 12, 2014), saying: “This starts with occupation. There's an apartheid state in Gaza. There's an
apartheid state in the region. That's what we need to talk about. That's what starts as resistance. It's not
terrorism”.

9. Marc Hill advocated on behalf of a convicted Palestinian terrorist Rasmea Odeh

In October of 2015 Hill wrote an opinion piece in the Huffington Post entitled, “Why Every Black Activist
Should Stand with Rasmea Odeh.” Hill referred to Odeh, a convicted Palestinian terrorist, as a “venerable
woman” and “freedom fighter.” As far as Hill is concerned, the murder of two young Israeli Jews in a 1969
bombing planned by Odeh wasn’t a horrific crime – it was an act of “justice.”

10. Marc Hill is a friend of a convicted terrorist Ali Jiddah

of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP)

PFL has a 50-year history of murdering civilians through

suicide bombings, plane and bus hijacking, and other armed
attacks. Hill has also urged his followers to support Jiddah
financially through a GoFundMe via Twitter. Jiddah, a
former member of the US-designated terror group PFLP,
was convicted to 17 years in prison after planting 4 hand
grenades on a Jerusalem street in 1968. The explosion
injured nine people. In the picture: The convicted
terrorist Ali Jiddah and Marc Lamont Hill, Facebook 2018

10. Marc Hill calls a convicted murderer wanted by the F.B.I. ‘one of our most treasured Freedom
Fighters’

Assata Shakur was convicted of murdering a police officer on the New Jersey Turnpike in 1977. The first-
degree murder conviction carried with it a life sentence, but Shakur escaped from prison two years later
and is now on the FBI most wanted list. She eventually surfaced in Cuba, where she has remained in
asylum ever since. Marc Hill generated backlash on the Internet when he openly praised a convicted
murderer and terrorist Assata Shakur on his Instagram account, stating that the cop-killer “showed me
the beauty of struggle.” (Published on July, 2018)

11. Hate incidents related to the Jewish state become more flagrant and create hostile environment
for Jewish students on American campuses nationwide.

AMCHA monitors more than 400 college campuses across the U.S. for anti-Semitic activity. It is the only
organization that regularly documents incidents and makes its database publicly accessible on its
website. An alarming recent survey and analysis by AMCHA August 2018 shows the following:

“Santa Cruz, CA, August 8 – In its annual report on anti-Semitic activity on U.S. campuses, released today,
AMCHA Initiative found that Israel-related anti-Semitic incidents were considerably more likely to
contribute to a hostile environment for Jewish students than incidents involving classic anti-
Semitism. And a close analysis of incidents from 2015 to the first half of 2018 revealed that Israel-related
incidents are becoming significantly more flagrant, with an emergent shift from boycotting Israel to
boycotting actual students and student groups”.
