Program and services

By establishing a strong partnership with community partners,


agencies and other organizations, this family Centre offers free services and
programs to families of different backgrounds. The Family Centre offers
early learning programs and services for children. Also, the Bridgeway
Family Centre offers free services to families such as prenatal and parent
education programs.

For infants:
1. Babies on the move: this program is for infants from age 9 to 18 months
to develop their fine motor as well gross motor skills by providing activities
for crawling, creeping, walking, walking and running. Also, in this program
babies can enjoy singing songs and rhymes, get hand –on experiences by
exploring new sensory experiences. This is also a great program for parents
to connect with others (Bridgeway Family Centre, 2019).
2. Infant massage: This 4 session program for 0 to 9 months aged children.
It gives an opportunity for parents to learn the technique of infant massage
and also promotes the bond between infant and parent/caregiver. This
program is designed for infants who are not yet mobile (Bridgeway Family
Centre, 2019).
3. Mother Goose: This is a great program from ages 0 to 12 months. This
interactive program supports bonding between adults and infants, through
rhymes, finger plays and songs. It also provides an opportunity for parents
to support each other, and bring about an awareness of community
resources (Bridgeway Family Centre, 2019).
For toddlers:
The Bridgeway family centre offers various activities for a toddler. The
activity that offers at Heart Lake location are: Toddler time and Ready, Set
and Go.
1. Toddler time: the program toddler time is for toddlers the age range of
18 to 3 years. This program is interactive program involves songs, story and
creative time for toddlers to enjoy with each other and their parents and
caregivers (Bridgeway Family Centre, 2019).
2. Ready, set and go: the age group of ready, set and go is from 1 to 2 years.
this program is a transitional program where the children are offer song
circle, short story and creative activities that will introduce young children
and adults to involve in explore crafts supplies. This will help children with
their fine motors skills a program whereas well as their cognitive skills
(Bridgeway Family Centre, 2019).
For preschoolers: The programs that are offered by Bridgeway family
centre for preschoolers are discovery time and preschool time. The age
group for these activities is 3 to 6 years.
1. Discovery time: in discovery time the educator encourages children to
explore the world around them through hands-on activities that will help
children with curiosity and explore science material. Discovery time
preschool strives to meet the development needs of the whole child, with
emphasis on the physical and cognitive needs of each child. (Bridgeway
Family centre, 2019).

2. Preschool time: This interactive program involves songs, story and


creative time for preschoolers to enjoy with each other and their
parents/caregivers. In preschool time the children are prepared to start
kindergarten (Bridgeway Family Centre, 2019).

For families
1. Drop in: Without any pre-registration, families can bring their children
into this program and they as well as the children get to socialize with their
peers while sharing a variety of toys and activities (Bridgeway Family
Centre, 2019).

2. Family time: For the families and children from 0-6 years old, the centre
provides music, story as well as creative time which provides the knowledge
of different cultures to the children as they tend to learn from others
(Bridgeway Family Centre, 2019).

3. Journey together: Journey together, is a program led by Indigenous


RECE Child and Family Outreach Workers and it allows Indigenous and
non-Indigenous children to engage in cultural activities. This program
includes activities such as hand drumming, story-telling, crafts, circle time,
and smudging (Bridgeway Family Centre, 2019).
4. Tales n tunes: In an estimated half an hour period, children and adults
engage in different interactive rhymes and songs (Bridgeway Family Centre,
2019).

5. Family move and groove: In this program, with the help of music,
movement, and rhymes, children physical coordination, social skills, and
expressive skills improve (Bridgeway Family Centre, 2019).

6. Postpartum mood disorder peer support group: An interactive program


for mothers, these sessions specify the ones who face isolation or
overwhelming situations being a new mother. During their session time,
their children get care from the ECEs (Bridgeway Family Centre, 2019).
