Assessment:
By 8th grade, students will be assessed on an assortment of skills they obtained over the past
few years.
Game Play:
- Teachers are going to assess during three types of Games:
- Net/wall
- Invation
- Field
- During those assessments 80% of the students must be competent in all of the
standards to have a successful assessment.
- Teachers are to look at the students psychomotor skills, team involvement, cognitive
learning and valuing physical activity.
- This can be done by recording the tournaments to have further review and really look at
all the students.
- Note: This can be done over a wide range of sports, it is important to look at the skills
itself rather than the actual game. For example, Dribbling. Student A may dribble well
with their feet but not with their hands, however they would still pass the assessment,
because they were successful at the skill dribbling, but maybe not with basketball.

Plan/Goal:
The whole outlook on PE in high school has been to be relaxed and let the
students have some freedom. We believe this has taken away the significance of having
PE as an elective. PE is still an educational class! Our plan when it comes to offering a
PE elective is to produce students that not only have a high quality athletic ability, but
students who realize that there are more sports out there than just basketball, volleyball,
and football.
For an 18 week course we would like increase the staff size with more Physical
Education teachers, not just parapros. You need someone with the background and
education to properly instruct students on activities they can do outside of the gym. For
most students this is going to be the last time they participate in PE so it needs to be of
higher quality. Students should be able to choose between 6 different
sports/games/activities throughout a semester. We will Rotate the sports every 6 weeks,
Students can start wherever they would like to sign up but must work in a three week
span at each throughout the semester.
Example:
- Volleyball Group:
- Spacial awareness skills
- Movement skills
- Ball control skills
- Striking skills
- Handball Group:
- Invasion tactics
- Teamwork
- Strategy
- Spacial Awareness
- Tennis Group:
- Body Movement
- Body Control
- Flexibility
- Gymnastics Group:
- Body Control
- Strength
- Basic movement fundamentals
- Flexibility
- Speedball Group:
- Invasion Tactics
- Speed
- Spacial awareness
- Teamwork
- Basketball Group:
- Play development
- Teamwork
- Ball control
- Focus development
Each teacher has a sport/game/activity they get to focus in on. This allows the
students to receive a much high quality of education for each group or station they
spend time in. In order to create well rounded students we believe they must spend time
in every group. Each teacher's main goal is to start of with basic fundamentals but
eventually end with a tournament. By the time the tournament rolls around each student
should be able to play well enough or perform well enough to compete either as a group
or an individual.
Along with a tournament each group will be require the students to individuals
make a portfolio or handbook. The portfolio will contain any graded paperwork handed
out through the three weeks as well as an end of activity evaluation of themselves. The
evaluation will be required to have the student explain what life fundamentals they
learned while doing that particular activity. We will also keep up with teachers
performance evaluations in the portfolio so the students may go back and reflect on how
much their skill has progressed. The biggest thing the students will learn from the
portfolio is responsibility. With this being a high school course responsibility is
something that needs to be required in every class, including PE. As mentioned before
the goal is to produce well rounded students and with this plan/ outline of a curriculum it
shows how students will benefit from a larger staff and an extended period of focus.
