Automatic Fire Suppression System
“KIDDE” CO2 System

1
Automatic CO2 Fire Suppression System

CO2 or Carbon dioxide is one of Clean Agents for fire suppression which is able to replace Halon
1301, suitable for electronic devices and Main Distribution Board (MDB), etc. CO2 Fire Suppression
Agent is designed in accordance with NFPA 12. After CO2 agent is released, it will be clean for room
devices and equipment, no particle, non-electric conductive.
CO2 is designed with Total Flooding System, 3 classes of fire can be extinguished
1. Class A (Combustible Materials, wood, paper, fabric,
refuse)
2. Class B (Flammable Liquid)
3. Class C (Live Electrical Equipment)

CO2 Agent is pressurized as liquid in standard cylinder.

When release, it will vaporize with air in protection area. Due to
higher CO2 concentration for fire extinguishing, oxygen in
protection area will be lower and CO2 agent might be harm to
people. So, it is not recommended to design for normally occupied
area. Abort/Hold system or manual system should be considered
when install CO2 Fire Suppression System.
The principle of CO2 Fire Suppression System is oxygen and rapid heat reduction due to CO2 has low
temperature characteristic. When one of 3 fire triangle elements (Heat, Oxygen and Fuel) is eliminated, fire will
not occur.
CO2 Agent will be released from the cylinder between 30-60 second. Protection room must be
enclosure, air conditioning and air vent systems must be stopped before agent release as well.

CAUTION
Automatic CO2 Fire Suppression System
CO2 can cause injury or death, please follow the procedure strictly

Component of CO2 Fire Suppression System

1. CO2 Cylinder with 45 kg of CO2 agent, cylinder valve and N2 pilot cylinder for system actuating by
pneumatic system

Function of CO2 Fire Suppression System
CO2 Fire Suppression System can be operated by Automatic or Manual as below detail
1. Automatic
Install the detectors by Cross Zone means all of detectors will be separated into 2 zones in order to
confirm the fire occurs. When detector is actuated, the signal will send to control panel
(Step1: Detector Zone A actuated)
- Alarm Bell sounds
- Air conditioning shutdown
(Step2: Detector Zone A and B actuated)
- Alarm Bell sounds
- Horn sounds with strobe light
- Count down start
(Step3: To postpone discharge count down timer)
- Push and hold Abort Station for about 2 second, countdown timer will start at 60
second again
- When countdown is at Zero, agent will be released until empty with 120 second
- Horn sounds continuously
- Alarm bell sounds
- Press Reset button on control panel for reset the system to normal. Before reset the
system while alarm sounds, please ensure that there’s no fire occurs.
2. Manual
2.1 Press Manual Release Station at any point will operate the Alarm Bell, Horn/Strobe Light, Air
conditioning system stop and actuate solenoid valve to release the agent immediately. The system
can be setup to automatically countdown up to 30 second after operated Manual Release Station
2.2 Pull the pin on Electric Control Head which is installed on the pilot cylinder, agent will be released
immediately. Pressure Operated Switch will be actuated and send the signal to control panel to
Alarm Bell and Horn/Strobe Light in the same time with air conditioning system shutdown

Testing and Commissioning Procedure for CO2 Fire Suppression System

1. Visual check and inspect overall system e.g, agent pipe, fitting, wire, etc.
2. Check and test function of control panel
- with AC 220V supply
- without AV 220V supply in order to test battery
3. Check and test Smoke Detector
4. Check and test Alarm Bell
5. Check and test Horn/Strobe Light
6. Check and test Manual Release Station
7. Check and test Abort Station
8. Check and test Solenoid Valve. Please be reminded that after testing the solenoid valve,
always check and reset solenoid valve not in ‘ACTUATED’ position before installing to the
cylinder valve
9. Check all devices again before running the system as usual

WARNING
CARBON DIOXIDE GAS DONOT ENTER until ventilated.
Can cause injury, suffocation or death.

Note and Recommendation

Checking and testing devices and system should be conducted at least 2 times a year in the
first year after installation, and 3 times a year in the second onwards by system installer or
authorized distributor

10
How to turn on and off \the system
When cleaning or pest control or room renovation or decoration or other activities that might
generate dust or small particle in protection area, CO2 fire suppression system is possible to be actuated.
So, in order to prevent such incident, please turn off the system as following

1. Turn off the system

 Remove Electric Actuator or solenoid valve at cylinder head

 Remove battery socket

 Switch off main power supply AC 220V in control panel

11
2. Turn on the system
 Visual check all devices
 Clean up smoke detector by removing from detector base and using air blow

 Switch on main power supply AC 220V

 Connect battery socket

 About 5-10 minutes after system operate, connect electric actuator/solenoid valve to cylinder
head

12
WARNING
Before installing Solenoid to cylinder head, must be always confirmed that it is in ‘SET’
position and the trigger is returned to right position.

Solenoid position before activate Solenoid position after activated

‘SET’ ‘RELEASED’
