Objective

The 5th Malaysia Indoor Solar Competition (My-SOLAR) offer students an opportunity to learn
by means of a friendly competition against their peers where students take responsibility for the
design, construction, and performance of a solar-powered amphibious vehicle that will complete
a race in the shortest possible time. Contestants are required to design and build a solar-powered
amphibious vehicle that will race on a 30 ft race track. The winner of the competition will be the
team whose boat clocked the shortest time in a series of qualifying.

1. Team
1.1. This competition is opened to all Malaysian and non-Malaysian based on the following
categories:
1.1.1. Junior Category ( Age 12 and below )

all are from the same school. Each participant is only allowed to register once.
1.3. Each team is required to submit the registration form online. Online registration form is
available at www.myrobotz.blogspot.my
1.4. Each team is REQUIRED TO PAY A REGISTRATION FEE BEFORE EACH
DATELINE (Payment not refundable)
1.4.1. Early Bird Registration (before 31st January 2019)
1.4.1.1. RM 100.00/team
1.4.2. Late Registration (before 28thFebruary 2019)
1.4.2.1. RM 120.00/team
1.4.3. Extended Registration (before 31st March 2019)
1.4.3.1. RM 150.00/team
1.5. No food/drink provided
1.6. The competition for respective category may be cancelled (subject to organizer
discretion) should the minimum no. of team (32 teams) are not achieved.
2. Game Play

of 2 rounds/heats.
2.2. Qualifiers of each stage are decided based on the following quota (Example):
Stages Team Competing Qualifiers for next stage
Round Robin 32 Top 16 shortest time
Elimination Round 16 Top 8 shortest time
Quarter Final 8 Top 4 shortest time
Semi Final 4 Top 2 shortest time
Final 2 Shortest time is the Winner

2.3. Each team is allowed to modify their ASV after every heat in order to improve their
speed and time clocked.
2.4. Only the best time clocked among the 2 heats/rounds for each stage will be taken into
account.
2.5. Each team is required to place their ASV at the starting zone on standby mode and static
position.
2.6. Once the whistle blown, the participant is required to release the ASV from Dry track
to Water track direction.
2.7. After the whistle blown, participants are not allowed/permitted to touch/push/redirect the
ASV unless instructed by the judges.

3. ASV Specifications
3.1. There is no limit on the number of solar cells used. However, the solar cells MUST USE
any available commercial silicon-based solar cells of NO GREATER THAN THE
MAXIMUM DIMENSIONS OF THE ASV (refer rule 3.2). Rare and difficult to
obtain types (such as used in research, space grade and other Gallium Arsenide cells) are
not allowed].
3.2. The maximum dimensions of the ASV, including any front and rear projections are as
follows:
Length: 30 cm (max)

3.2.1. Length : 30 cm
3.2.2. Width : 10 cm
Width: 10 cm (max)
3.2.3. Height : 25 cm
3.2.4. Weight : No limit

3.3. The ASV must be structurally sound without the solar panel. The solar panel cannot be
used as the chassis of the boat.
3.4. The ASV must be powered solely by the sun’s energy (spotlight). No energy storage
devices (e.g. flywheel battery, etc.) may be used in conjunction with the solar panel.
Hence, circuits, electronics or mechanical devices for the purpose of energy storing
are NOT ALLOWED to be used on the ASV. The ASV must be powered solely by
the sun's energy (spotlight) which means the solar panel must be connect directly to
the motor.
3.5. Each team is required to label their ASV with respective team name within the size of 1
cm (width) x 3 cm (length) area on the ASV.

4. Track Specifications
4.1. The race track dimensions:
4.1.1. Total Length : 30 ft
- comprised of 5 sections of 3ft each – dry track
- comprised of 5 sections of 3ft each – water track
4.1.2. Width : 13 cm
4.1.3. Wall Height : 10 cm

4.2. The race track is made from transparent acrylic.

4.3. The height of the spot light is 40 cm above the track floor surface and is mounted at the
middle of every section of the track.
4.4. There are a total of 10 spotlights to be placed along the race track.
4.5. Each spotlight uses a 500 watt bulb.
1.5 ft = Placement of the spotlight on top of each track section
3.0 ft = Length of each track section
30 ft = Total length of the race track
40 cm = Height of the spotlight from the race track surface

participant if push start occurs.
5.3. Team that touches their ASV after the whistle sound will automatically be disqualified
for that particular heat/round.
5.4. Two (2) violations accumulated in each heat/round will lead to disqualification for that
particular heat/round.
5.5. Challenges protesting the winning order of the heat must be made before the race judges
begin the next heat. All challenges must come from the team members who are actively
competing. The decisions of the race judges are final.
