A student’s attendance rate is vital to his or academic success; students are more likely to succeed
in academics when they attend school consistently. In addition, it is difficult for the teacher and the
class to build their skills and progress if a large number of students are frequently absent.
The goals are to identify any systemic barriers that might be affecting attendance and to decrease the
percentage rate of chronically absent, 22% in the 2017-2018 academic year (about 70 students),
defined by students who miss 10% or more school days per year with or without a valid excuse, by
