MID 134 - CID 3317 - FMI 09

SMCS - 7347-038-ODS

MID 134 CID 3317 FMI 09

Conditions Which Generate This Code:

This diagnostic code becomes active when all of the parameters for the
CAN data link for the rear middle object detection sensor are missing for
more than 250 milliseconds. This diagnostic code is associated with the
wire harnesses that connect to the components for the object detection
system. Failure of the internal CAN data link wiring of an object detection
component may also cause this diagnostic code. This failure causes the
data link communications to be disrupted.

System Response:

The object detection system is disabled. The system will reactivate when
all of the parameters for the rear middle medium range object detection
sensor are available. The status indicator for the system will illuminate
red.

Test Step 1. CYCLE THE POWER TO THE SYSTEM

A. Place the key start switch and the disconnect switch in the OFF
position.

B. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON
position.

C. Check the status of the diagnostic code MID 134 - CID 3317 - FMI
09.

Expected Result:

The diagnostic code is not active.

Results:

YES - The diagnostic code is not active.

Repair: The diagnostic code was caused by the internal wiring for
the CAN data link of the display. Cycling the power to the system has
reset the display. Return the machine to normal operation.

STOP

NO - The diagnostic code is still active. Proceed to Test Step 2.

Test Step 2. CHECK POWER TO THE REAR MIDDLE MEDIUM RANGE

OBJECT DETECTION SENSOR

A. Disconnect the connector from the rear middle medium range object
detection sensor.

B. Take the following measurement at the harness connector for the

rear middle medium range object detection sensor. Measure the
voltage between contact 4 wire (C569-YL(Yellow)) and contact 1
wire (C234-BK(Black)).

Expected Result:

The voltage measurement is 12 ± 3 VDC.

Results:

YES - The voltage measurements are 12 ± 3 VDC. Proceed to Test

Step 3.

NO - The voltage measurements are NOT 12 ± 3 VDC.

Repair: The 12/24 V power converter has failed or the machines

charging system is not functioning correctly. Replace the 12/24 V
power converter or repair the charging system.

STOP

Test Step 3. CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE CAN DATA LINK

A. Place the key start switch and the disconnect switch in the OFF
position.
B. Disconnect the CM-C1 connector from the back of the display.

C. Take the following measurement at the CM-C1 connector that is

located in the center on the back of the display. Measure the
resistance between contact 7 wire (K900-YL(Yellow)) and contact 8
wire (K990-GN(Green)). Note the resistances.

Expected Result:

The resistance measurement is 60 ± 6 ohms.

Results:

YES - The resistance measurement is 60 ± 6 ohms. Proceed to Test

Step 5.

NO - The resistance measurement is NOT 60 ± 6 ohms. Proceed to

Test Step 4.

Test Step 4. CHECK THE TERMINATION RESISTOR

A. Disconnect the 3-pin connector for both of the termination resistors.

B. Measure the resistance across contact A and contact B for one

resistor. Measure the resistance across contact A and contact B for
the other resistor. Note the resistance.

Expected Result:

The resistance measurements are 120 ± 12 ohms for each resistor.

Results:

YES - The resistance measurements are 120 ± 12 ohms. Reconnect

the resistors. Proceed to Test Step 5.

NO - One or both of the resistance measurements are NOT 120 ± 12

ohms.

Repair: Replace the termination resistor or resistors that did not

measure 120 ± 12 ohms.

STOP

Test Step 5. CHECK THE CAN DATA LINK FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

A. The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF
position.

B. Take the following measurement at the CM-C1 connector that is

located in the center on the back of the display. Measure the
resistance between contact 7 wire (K900-YL(Yellow)) and frame
ground. Measure the resistance between contact 8 wire (K990-
GN(Green)) and frame ground. Note the resistances.

Expected Result:

The resistance measurements are greater than 5000 ohms.

Results:

YES - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. Proceed to Test

Step 6.

NO - One or both of the resistance measurements are less than 5

ohms.

Repair: The CAN data link is shorted to ground. The short may be in
the object detection harness or one of the object detection
components. Disconnect all of the object detection sensors from the
CAN data link and repeat this step. If the resistance still measures
less than 5 ohms after disconnecting the object detection
components, repair the harness or replace the harness.

STOP

Test Step 6. CHECK THE CAN DATA LINK FOR SHORT TO + BATTERY.

A. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON
position.

B. Reconnect the CM-C1 connector that is located in the center on the

back of the display.

C. Locate one of the termination resistors for the CAN data link. Then
disconnect the termination resistor.

D. Measure the voltage between contact A wire (K900-YL(Yellow)) of

the object detection harness and frame ground. Measure the voltage
between contact B wire (K990-GN(Green)) of the object detection
harness and frame ground. Note the voltages.

Expected Result:

The voltage measurements are approximately 2.5 VDC.

Results:

YES - The voltage measurements are approximately 2.5 VDC.

Proceed to Test Step 7.

NO - One or both voltage measurements are greater than 5 V.

Repair: The CAN data link is shorted to the +battery circuit. Repair
the harness or replace the harness.

STOP

Test Step 7. CHECK THE CAN DATA LINK FOR FAILED COMPONENTS

Note: Ensure that the MID 134 - CID 3317 - FMI 09 diagnostic code is
active prior to performing this step.

A. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON
position.

Note: Ensure that the termination resistor from the previous step has
been reconnected.

B. Disconnect the following components from the system one at a

time. After each component has been disconnected, check the
display in order to verify that the MID 134 - CID 3317 - FMI 09 code is
no longer active.

Object detection sensors

Expected Result:

Removing one of following system components will cause the diagnostic

code to go to the inactive state.

Results:

YES - Removing one of the system components caused the MID 134
- CID 3317 - FMI 09 code to go to the inactive state.

Repair: The last component that was removed from the system has
failed. Replace the last component that was removed from the
circuit.

STOP

NO - Removing one of the system components did not cause the

MID 134 - CID 3317 - FMI 09 code to go to the inactive state.
Proceed to Test Step 5.

Test Step 8. CHECK FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT ON THE CAN DATA LINK

A. Turn the key start switch for the machine to the OFF position.
B. Turn the disconnect switch for the machine to the OFF position.

C. Disconnect all of the object detection components from the harness

(including the display).

D. Measure the resistance between the circuits for CAN data link + and
CAN data link - from the harness connector for the display to the
contacts for CAN data link + and CAN data link - for all the other
object detection components.

Expected Result:

The resistance measurements for each of the CAN data link + and the
CAN data link - circuits are less than 5 ohms.

Results:

YES - The resistance measurements for each of the circuits for the
CAN data link + and the CAN data link - are less than 5 ohms.

Repair: The display has failed. Replace the display.

STOP

NO - The resistance measurements for one or more of the circuits

for the CAN data link + and the CAN data link - are greater than 5000
ohms.

Repair: The CAN data link is open in the harness. Repair the harness
or replace the harness.

STOP
