Bainsbridge Island, WA

La Petite Danseuse
This vacation home is for the artistic couple, Sabine & Peter. Located
on the beautiful island of Bainsbridge Island, Washington, just a stone
throws away from busy Seattle. The house is situated on the edge of
Gazzam Lake Nature preserve, surrounded by a lush forest. The mature
trees shades the house during the summer and acts as a buffer from the
wind. Knowing this, I opted for large windows to let ample natural light
into the home.

Both individuals are artistic and given this is a vacation home, the design
brief therefore entailed creating a stylish hotel like environment with an
artistic flair.

Sabine was a professional ballerina, she has since retired from perform-
ing on stage but she still spends many hours practicing and would like to
start teaching ballet to students young & old. She requests a studio space
to be designed for her.

Peter is a successful novelist and he requests an office space for him to Inspiration photos
write his novels. Together they enjoy cooking and inviting their friends
and neighbors over for dinner parties and bbq’s.

Existing Plan

The program requirements were similar to the existing floor plan.

The main changes the clients had were to add a dance studio for
Sabine & and an office for Peter to write. The dining space was
opened up and moved to the rear for easy access to the
backyard and pool. Opening up the walls between the kitchen and
dining space allows for easier entertaining.

The Cocoon
Jordan B. is a successful artist in her early thirties.
She enjoys cooking, reading, gardening, entertaining
friends, and is an amateur astronomer.

Project Requirement: Remodel an existing industrial

building to create a home for client. Exterior walls
cannot be changed & second story loft cannot be more
than 50% of lower level.

Jordan will be spending most of her time in the cocoon,

as it serves as her home, studio and office. It was
important for me to design a space that will be
spacious so that she does not feel confined in her own
home. The east wing of the loft is designed with a
cocoon in mind, small intimate spaces. As one moves
west, the spaces open up, high ceilings and less barriers,
hoping that her creative ideas & career will also Inspiration photos
blossom..

an artist, these LED lamps can provide the best light for color.*

La Luna
La Luna is a multifunctional art gallery with a
transformable event space and a bar. This brick
building used to exist as a warehouse in downtown
Los Angeles. The goal for the project, was to create a
space where the community could come together and
enjoy different forms of art.

Panels can be moved, allowing the space to be divid-

ed into varying formations. Tables and podiums can
be set up in the event space for poetry, book readings,
music and etc.

The bar is a great way for the gallery to generate

additional revenue. An art gallery could potentially be
seen as an intimidating place for the casual passers-by.
However, by creating a bar, the locals can come in for
a drink and be surprised by the wonderful art that is
around them.
