repeated across processes and the administration – the most frequent of these are described in the following. Reference is made to these
modules at the relevant points in the manual, which makes the process diagrams clearer and more concise.

Term Process Explanation
In the sampling process, suppliers demonstrate that they have complied with the
requirements of the customer (Daimler AG). The positive result of initial sampling is series
shipping approval. In a new product project (vehicle launch), sampling starts with QG C of
the product development process in accordance with the MDS and ends at the latest when
Sampling Sampling the first production test begins (Pro1). In series production, sampling for change years and
model refinements must be carried out in accordance with VDA Vol. 2 and MBST13.
Sampling reasons must also be given in accordance with these requirements. The conditions
for achieving series shipping approval must be reviewed at appropriate intervals by the
supplier (re-qualification).
Sampling plan Sampling The sampling plan documented the plan process prepend a sampling.
There are three types of sampling: Technical sampling (encompasses sampling, part and
Sampling type Sampling
process), color sampling, and software sampling.
A check carried out by an employee of Daimler AG to determine whether or not a PPAR
created by the supplier is plausible and complete. Once the PPAR documents and the sample
Sampling capability Sampling
parts received at the QM unloading point have successfully undergone a plausibility check,
sampling capability is ensured and specialist verifications are assigned.
The sampling reason is the reason why sampling is performed. A distinction is made here
between "initial sampling" and "miscellaneous samples". Initial sampling may only be carried
out with parts originating from production tools and manufactured entirely using standard
Sampling reason Sampling
manufacturing equipment under normal series production conditions (see VDA Vol. 2,
Section 4.5.2). Note from MBST: Series shipping approval is not granted for miscellaneous
samples.

Color sampling is a type of sampling and part of the sampling process (together with
technical sampling). The result of color sampling is the final decision on the color, which is
part of the sampling report. Color sampling involves assessing color parts in the overall
Color sampling Sampling
vehicle as part of paintwork meetings (color sample card). Material-specific checks (paint
technology sample card) and surface-specific checks (surface/grain sample card) are also
carried out.
Parts that can be installed in different colors due to design specifications are known as color
parts. The colors and material types are defined with equipment and color codes. Two four-
Color coding Sampling
digit supplementary codes (ES1 and ES2) are added to the 12-digit detail number. ES2 is the
color code.
Color sampling does not need to be carried out for color-neutral parts; only technical
Color-neutral part Sampling
sampling (production process and product release) is carried out.
Color status (F-status) Sampling A color part's color status corresponds to a specific version of color changes made to a part.

A sample card was originally a physical form that acted as a "signpost" for a sample from QM
via the specialist department and back to QM. The sample card contains information about

of its inspection on the sample card. The functionality of the electronic sample card is
mapped in exactly the same way in the SQMS.

As well as initial sampling, additional sampling is another reason for sampling. Additional
sampling can be carried out as a result of a "yellow" or "red" final decision, even if
documents are submitted later. The most important thing here is that only the PPAR version,
Additional sampling Sampling
and not the parts change status, is incremented upward. If you sent parts to Daimler AG in
the first sampling run, please indicate this when the parts are released in case additional
sampling needs to be carried out.

In the SQMS, users receive access authorizations through the assignment of one or more
roles. One user can have more than one role, whereby the rights complement each other.
Authorizations enable users to edit/process data (read, enter, edit, delete) and to execute
actions (release, return to Daimler). Four roles are available for suppliers:
QM supervisor: Responsibility for quality management on the supplier side and the final
contact for all processes that have not already been assigned to a different employee at the
Role (concept) General supplier (see "Supplier quality index (SQI)").
Administrator : Managing the assignment of parts, processes and employees (SQI and
contact).
Specialist: This role enables users to process, but not execute, all actions required by the
supplier (with the exception of administration).
Approver: This role enables the supplier to return actions to Daimler AG or release them.
