About the workshop

This program aims to support the goal of developing a culture of research among
professional teachers in the Department of Education (DO 42, S. 2015). The two-day
national hands-on workshop will focus on data preparation and use of various statistical
tests (i.e., descriptive and inferential statistics). Specifically, it will center on testing
statistical hypotheses using the software SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social
Sciences). It will provide activities and lectures to teach participants on how to use SPSS
in drawing inferences from quantitative data utilizing parametric tests. Daily sessions will
be for eight (8) hours and will cover lectures, group activities, and hands-on workshops
as main teaching strategies. Specifically, the objectives of the programs are the
following:

1. Develop skills in data entry, cleaning, editing, and transforming data from a
research instrument.
2. Apply appropriate descriptive statistics from a given data.
3. Formulate a research hypothesis for a study.
4. Analyze data using statistics and hypothesis testing.

Administrators, graduate students, teachers, student teachers, or any


professionals/individuals involved with quantitative research.

About the workshop

The 3-day seminar-workshop aims to provide participants with the philosophical


foundations as well as research-based instructional preparations on early childhood or
pre-school education, which include planning the learning environment to assessment.
To provide participants with practical learning experiences, a demonstration teaching at
the workshop and study tour at the University of the Philippines Child Development
Center are included in the program.

Objectives for the participants:


1. Understand Early Childhood Care Development in the Philippines
2. Obtain knowledge on different philosophies on early childhood education
3. Enhance skills in planning comprehensive assessment in early childhood, which
include planning activities based on assessment results
4. Design a learning environment and strategies on early childhood education
