Electropollution and your Health

Three Main Areas of Electropollution:

Electropollution is being propagated in five ways.

The Problem:

• Magnetic fields: Magnetic fields are generated by electronics, motors, elevators,

automobiles, power lines and appliances. These are mainly frequencies less than 1 Kilohertz
(one thousand cycles per second. The magnetic portion of the electromagnetic field is
measured in milligauss. In Russia limits are placed on magnetic fields above 2.5 milligauss. The
World Health Organization recommends limits at 2.0 milligauss but they are not currently
strictly enforced. The typical electrical alarm clock generates between 10 and 50 milligauss.
Studies have shown a positive correlation and dose relationship between magnetic fields above
2.0 milligauss and leukemia and other cancers. Magnetic fields have been strongly linked to
calcium efflux, which is a condition where the neurotransmitter calcium ion is summarily
ejected at the cellular level. Some scientists contend that this causes an imbalance and build
up of calcium in the bloodstream that may lead to plaque on the arteries, heart and in the
brain. Some have linked this plaque buildup to the dramatic growth of strokes, heart-attacks in
younger people and Alzheimer’s disease. Other scientists are noting a ‘hardening’ of the cell
structure, which is affecting normal cellular function. In 1990 the EPA recommended that
electromagnetic fields be classified a class B-1 probable carcinogen. The EPA scientists were
particularly concerned with the magnetic portion of electromagnetic fields. At the depths of
the 1990 recession, the White House rejected the science presented in “An Evaluation of the
Carcinogenicy of Electromagnetic Fields” by 43 EPA scientists claiming, “we do not want to
scare the American people.” The EPA recommendation, which was based on 48 studies, was
never officially released to the American public. Benzene had been declared a carcinogenic by
the EPA, based on only 16 studies. Following this study, the EPA was stripped of responsibility
for research and regulation of radiation from electromagnetic fields.
• Microwaves/ Radiofrequencies – These are frequencies from cell phones/ towers, WiFi,
microwave ovens, radar, digital television, satellite communications and fluorescent lights. The
frequency range for radio frequencies is 300 hertz (cycles per second) to 300 megahertz
(millions of cycles per second), which includes AM/ FM radio, digital TV, emergency
communications like Fire/ Police and missile defense systems. Microwaves range from 300
megahertz to 300 gigahertz (billions of cycles per second) and include cell phones (900 MHz and
1.8 GHz), cordless phones (900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 5.6 GHz); WiFi and microwave ovens(2.5
Gigahertz), WiMax (3 Gigahertz), radar (usually in the gigahertz range) and most satellite
signals. For safety concerns, the intensity of radio frequencies (RF) and microwaves are often
measured in microwatts per square centimeter. At high intensities microwaves can heat tissue,
just like a microwave heats food and all scientists agree this can be extremely hazardous to
your health. This is called the thermal effect. Cell phone standards were established to ensure
that the heat from a cell phone could not heat brain tissue more than 1 degree per hour. While
most standards focus on intensity of RF/ Microwaves, many scientists have demonstrated
biological effects at very low intensities. While most of the government and industry research
has been done in the lab with just one frequency at high intensities for very short durations,
there are thousands of independent human studies that show biological effects in our actual
life environment, where everyone is now chronically exposed. Typical exposures in the US are
1200 microwave/ RF signals within two miles. No government studies have been performed on
the long-term effects of low-level microwave/RF exposures. Meanwhile US Standards are
among the highest in the world. Here is a comparison:
• Dirty Electricity:

o Dirty Electricity I – (refers to unusable frequencies such as harmonics and transients

that cause surges and spikes on electrical lines in the Kilohertz range. These
frequencies are mainly be created by electronic devices and efficiency lighting that use
power conversion technologies (AC to DC). There is evidence that the process of
conversion of power causes a loss of energy and concomitant creation of bio-active
frequencies. www.greenwave.bz.
o Dirty Electricity II (Re-radiation – “antenna effect”): powerlines and other electronics
re-radiate ambient microwaves and radiofrequencies, often at hundreds of times
greater intensities. These can be measured with an RF-field meter (microwatts per
square centimeter). See www.greenwave.bz.

The Solution:
Three Areas that can be easily reduced:

• Magnetic fields can be avoided if you know where they are. Usually if you move several feet
from the source you can reduce potentially harmful exposures greatly. Russia imposes a 2.5
milligauss safety limit on these fields. Multiple studies show bioeffects and disease associations
beginning around 2.0 milligauss
• Dirty Electricity – dirt electricity filters from Stetzer Electric (Graham-Stetzer) and GreenWave
(www.greenwave.bz) reduce exposures and have shown positive effect across a variety of
health issues.
• Re-radiation (antenna effect): GreenWave has broadband a filter that filters dirty electricity
and re-radiation from 1 Kilohertz to 5 million Kilohertz (5 Gigahertz).

More difficult to reduce exposures

• Microwaves/ Radiofrequencies – these are the hardest to avoid. There is currently no real
solution to avoiding frequencies from cell phones, WiFi, microwave ovens, radar, and satellite
communications. Most suburban dwellers experience chronic exposures.
