Dear people,

This document is intended solely for use within the communication groups of Fridays for Future. It
is not a final, binding version, as we will involve you in the decision and incorporate your feedback
prior to publication. We have endeavoured to keep our demands in the paper as concise and short
as possible. Nevertheless, there are many sources and scientists* who have advised us, we are aware
that there are conflicting views and data on the Internet.

We have decided against naming precise steps or political measures, because we want politics to
be science-oriented. We can give more weight to scientific facts with our demands. For further
research, we would perhaps publish internal idea papers (including our sources), then anyone who
would like to look more closely at possible concrete political measures can do so. However,
implementation proposals on our part can always only be ideas. There are different ways to reach
our demands.

If you still have questions that cannot be answered with a little research, just contact the
Positionspapier-AG. (ag.grundsatz@fridaysforfuture.de) We are happy to help you!
General Information

We have limited ourselves to 7 essential points which we believe are crucial to limiting
global warming to below 1.5°.
We want to offer a framework of scientifically founded demands. These can be
designed in the OGs with pleasure site-specifically.
These demands can support us as a movement in defending our goals.
These demands are explicitly addressed to politicians.
Specific annual figures (such as 2035) are intended to set a timeframe for policy making and
make progress verifiable.
Our demands already start in the year 2020 in order to be able to hold politicians
accountable for their fulfillment/non-fulfillment as early as next year and at regular
intervals.
The objectives are rather ambitious. We wait for feedback from experts* and correct
it if necessary.
Our main goal is to limit global warming to below 1.5°C (source). All our
requirements should be aimed at this.
The Federal Government should take appropriate measures to this end and
represent a progressive position in the international discourse.
definitions
Industrialization:
The transition from isolated production (in agricultural or craft enterprises) to mass production in large
enterprises.

Investment = Expenditure, cash expenditure

Municipal level:

the administrative level of municipalities/cities

Initiative:

first step in the right direction

Reduction = reduction, reduction

Greenhouse gases:
Gases in our atmosphere that cause heat to remain in the atmosphere.

Carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (laughing gas; N20), sulphur hexafluoride (SF6)

emissions = emission, levy

Net zero:
The same amount of CO2 is released into the atmosphere as is reabsorbed.

CO2 equivalents:
Unit in which all greenhouse gases (CO2, methane, etc.) are measured so that they can be better compared.

Renewable energies:

Energy/electricity from virtually inexhaustible sources Climate neutral:

does not influence the climate either positively or negatively deconstruction:

Restore the building to its former state.

Land use:
Human use of land (e.g. roads, agriculture, sports fields)

Sustainable:
Made to last/work for a very long time.

Greenhouse gas pricing:

Money must be paid to cause greenhouse gases (e.g. by companies).

Sectors = Areas, areas Planetary borders:

Is a concept that describes how much resource use and pollution the earth can withstand before our
livelihood/ecosystems are destroyed. Climate and biodiversity, for example, are areas in which there are
boundaries.
OURS
DEMAND
FOR THE
PROTECTION OF THE
CLIMATE
#FridaysForFuture
"Man is nothing in himself. He's just a boundless opportunity. But he's the one
who's limitlessly responsible for this opportunity."
Albert Camus

The climate crisis poses a life-threatening threat to humanity. On average, the earth has already
warmed by a good one degree Celsius compared to the beginning of industrialization.

The costs of the consequences of global warming will be many times higher than any investment in
concrete measures to prevent a climate catastrophe. The previous failure must not be played down
at the expense of future generations or other countries.

Fridays for Future calls on local, state and federal governments to identify the climate crisis as such
and take immediate action at all levels. Governments must make a legal commitment to strictly avoid
warming above 1.5 degrees Celsius. The climate targets for 2020 must be achieved.

Fridays For Future calls for compliance with the 1.5 degree
limit. Explicitly we demand:
1. Germany-wide greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced to net zero by
2035. This can be achieved by an annual reduction of at least 60 million tonnes
of CO2 equivalents.

2. By 2035, Germany will have to generate 100 percent of its electricity demand
independently from renewable energies. We demand the phase-out of coal by
2030 and the shutdown of the 14 oldest coal-fired power plants by 2020.

3. The transport of people and goods must be completely climate-neutral by

2035. Air and sea traffic are expressly included.

4. The construction, operation and dismantling of buildings must be 100 percent

climate-neutral by 2035. We regard a ban on the installation of oil and natural
gas heating systems from 2021 as a necessary measure.

5. Emissions from land use must be reduced to net zero by 2035. As part of land
use, agriculture must make a sustainable turnaround that guarantees a
reduction in greenhouse gases in favour of preserving and rebuilding a natural
basis for life.

6. We demand comprehensive greenhouse gas pricing for all economic sectors.

Prices must be fixed in accordance with the 1.5 degree limit.

7. We call for a rethink in the nature of economic action that turns the focus
away from pure economic growth and instead operates within planetary
boundaries.
The realisation of these demands must be made socially acceptable. The state
must remember its responsibility towards the environment and future
generations. In addition, Germany must also take a strong international stand on
climate policy.

In order to achieve a turnaround that can be supported by society, we demand

absolute transparency, fact-based education and full involvement of the
population in the change process. All progress must be documented. They must
be subject to independent controls which make it possible to assess and evaluate
the effectiveness of the measures.

It must not be the task of young people to assume responsibility for prioritising
climate protection. Since politics hardly assumes this responsibility, we are forced
to continue to strike until action is taken!
