COA Awards
11& 22 Nov, 2018, Sonipat & Delhi

7th Semester team had participated in Council of Architecture (COA)


Heritage Awards for Excellence and had submitted two projects for
evaluation at zonal level. Both the entries were selected for the final
National Jury to be held on 11th November 2018 at Mahavir School
of Planning and Architecture, Sonipat.
It gives us immense pleasure to share that our project titled
‘Documenting the Traditional Water Structures and
Historic Resources of Narnaul’ was selected amongst the top CSPA team receiving COA Heritage Award at National Jury at Delhi
10 entries from all over India for COA HERITAGE AWARD. A total
of five zones with five entries from each zone, participated making
it a total of 25 participants. CSPA team bagged the runners up
award and was given cash prize of 15,000 INR, book vouchers
worth10,000 INR and a certificate of participation.
Another feather to our cap was -- the selection of Yash Sarolia,
Batch 2013 in the COA THESIS AWARD held in Delhi on 22
November 2018. He was awarded with a cash prize of 10,000 INR,
books worth 2500 INR and a certificate. The award ceremony
for both was held in Delhi where the winners of COA HERITAGE
AWARD and COA THESIS AWARD were felicitated with certificates
and cash prizes.

EXPERT LECTURE
Heritage Practice in Australia
13 November, 2018, Pierre Hall, CSPA

Dr. Vidhu Gandhi was invited as a Guest speaker to Chitkara School


of Planning & Architecture to deliver a presentation titled, ‘The Need
for Social Significance: Heritage Practice in Australia’ on 13th
November, 2018 . The presentation was held in Pierre Hall, Corbusier
Students receiving COA Heritage Award 2018 at Zonal Jury at Sonipat
Block. Dr. Vidhu Gandhi holds a PhD in Built Environment and is a
Heritage Consultant with 11 years experience in India and Australia.
Presently she holds the position of Senior Heritage Advisor in Extent
Heritage Pty Ltd in Asia-Pacific (Sydney, Australia).
She deliberated on the changing paradigm of including social
significance in the field of Conservation & Heritage Management. The
lecture was attended by Ar. Kiran Joshi, faculty and students from 7th
semester. It was a very interactive session and she discussed about
the prospects of studies in Australia too.

In line with the requirements of the subject of Building Material and
Construction-II, our 2nd Semester students visited the Brick Kiln located
on Chandigarh-Zirakpur Highway. The students were accompanied by
faculty members Asstt. Profs. Manmohit Singh and Shubham Jain. The
students were shown mixing of clay with water followed by moulding
of bricks. The site Incharge explained the entire process of making and
baking of bricks. The students got an opportunity to see the kiln and
its various parts like chambers, the machine layout and smoke shaft.
Experiential learning on site has always proved to be the best way to
teach students life time lessons.

Book Exhibition

SITE VISIT A one-day Book Exhibition was organized in the Corbusier block
on 28th November, 2018. It was arranged in collaboration with one
Brick Kiln of our suppliers Mr. Mukul Prashar, Marketing Head IAG (Interior
19 November, 2018, Zirakpur
Architecture Group), Ludhiana. A number of books on Architecture,
Interiors & Furniture Design were put on display. Our students and
faculty got to see wide range of books on their related subjects and
they purchased a few books.

ITPI Seminar
15 December, 2018, Panchkula

The Haryana Regional Chapter of Institute of Town Planners India


(ITPI) had organized a one day seminar on the theme “Planning
and Development of Smart Villages: A Strategy to Manage Rapid
Urbanization” on 15th December, 2018 at ITPI, Haryana Regional
Center, Panchkula. Eminent experts from various academic institutions
delivered informative presentations. The seminar was attended by
some students of 9th semester and 7th semester along with faculty Prof. Harveen Bhandari Felicitation ceremony
members Assoc. Profs. Aarti Rana, Deepmala and Shruti Behera and delivering the presentation

Asstt. Prof. Yamini Gupta. The seminar focused on exchange of ideas and
approaches to deal with managing the issues borne as a consequence of FACULTY ACTIVITY
rapid urbanization.
SPSS Workshop
17-23 December, 2018, Chitkara University

Kanika Bansal, Professor, Chitkara School of Planning & Architecture


attended a 7 days Faculty Development Programme on “Application
of SPSS in Data Analysis” organized by Chitkara School of Health
Sciences & Doctoral Research Centre, Chitkara Business School from
17th December to 23rd December, 2018. The aim of the workshop was
primarily to develop the understanding of quantitative data analysis
techniques, its interpretation and evaluation of results as well as
to apply SPSS/AMOS software for analysis. The resource persons
explained the complete concept of qualitative analysis and through
a series of examples gave hands on experience on how to apply the
various sets of data in SPSS. The most important learning from the
sessions was the technique of interpreting the results and the way

rich learning experience.
FACULTY ACTIVITY
International Conference on Heritage
14-16 December, 2018, Ahmedabad University, Ahmedabad

Prof. Harveen Bhandari presented a research paper in ‘2nd International


Conference on Heritage Management Education and Practice:
Developing Integrated Approaches’, organised by Centre for Heritage
Management, Ahmedabad University. The conference, scheduled from
14-16 December, 2018, witnessed scholars and professionals from
India, Rome, Greece, USA, Malaya and Melbourne. The conference aimed
to have interactive discourses to promote conservation and management
of heritage assets, explore ways of integrating diverse aspects of heritage
and bridging the gaps in heritage management practices. Prof. Bhandari Workshop in progress
delivered a presentation titled ‘The Narratives of Deteriorating
Tangible and Intangible Heritage at Naina Devi Shaktipitha’. It is a
part of her doctoral research wherein she highlighted the typology of
heritage assets and the potential threats to them.

NEW BEGINNING CHERISHED MEMORIES
MOU with GEM ASSOCHAM CSPA fraternity managed to scoop some precious moments from
18 December, 2018, Exploretorium the busy schedule of our Vice Chancellor, Dr. Madhu Chitkara and
created some memories which became a treasure for us.
Chitkara University climbed another step in its ladder of success by
signing there new MOU's with ISHRAE, GEM-ASSOCHAM and FSAI on
18th Dec, 2018 in the university campus. The ceremony took place in
presence of all esteemed guests in the Exploretorium. CSPA Director,
Dr. Ambuj Kumar made a new committment towards Institute's
growth and overall development by signing an MOU with GEM-
ASSOCHAM.

FACULTY CELEBRATION
Our family with fun & frolic celebrated the birthday of our Director,
Dr. Ambuj Kumar & Asstt. Prof. Jagwinder Singh that happens to fall
on same date.

The faculty enjoyed the gala Christmas theme lunch served by


Chitkara School of Hospitality on 21st December in the Restaurant of
Escoffier Block.
