Design with CSIBridge

Step 1:
Create model using static pushover analysis (bents will be isolate) (Ch.7 Nonlinear Analysis P.186)
Step 2:
Determine Seismic motion hazard (obtain seismic design curve) (by website USGS and bridge
coordinates)
Step 3:
Applied dead loads on bridge (calculate Cracked section properties, other columns also)
Step 4:
Calculate modes & perform Response Spectrum Analysis
Step 5:
Isolate the bents with equivalents loads
Step 6:
calculate displacement capacity (SDC B & SDC C), pushover analysis (SDC D) (P 294).
Step 7:
Calculate Demand /capacity ratios
Step 8:
Produce seismic design report

In LRFD SBD, a so-called “pushover” analysis is specified to evaluate bridge displacement capacity
if a bridge is designed for SDC D. As the name implies, the pushover analysis is a process of pushing
bridge horizontally, with a prescribed loading pattern, incrementally, until the bridge reaches an
unstable condition. This incremental linear analysis should capture the overall nonlinear behavior of
various bridge components by pushing them to initiate inelastic action. At each incremental step, the
pushing force and representative displacement are monitored, and a pushover curve can be plotted to
illustrate the progression of bridge inelastic deformation until collapse.
