The size of an export carton should comply wherever possible with the guidelines stated in
section 8:1.2 below, in order to ensure as cost effective logistics handling as possible. The
number of retail packs contained in an export carton should be discussed with the relevant
purchaser or Hemtex Purchase Office. When determined the export carton should always
contain this number of the same retail pack. Hemtex AB only accepts whole and complete
Export Cartons. (i.e. Different retail packs are not allowed in the same export carton)
In the event that a purchase order quantity leads to an Export Carton being incomplete (i.e.
not full) then contact should be made with the appropriate purchaser or Hemtex Purchase
Office to discuss whether the order quantity may be increased or reduced to result in a
complete Export Carton.
All cartons should be carefully and suitably packed to avoid any risk of breakage, injury or
misshaping of the goods during the transit process from the suppliers warehouse to Hemtex
retail unit.
All export cartons should be firmly taped on both sides. Banding of export cartons may be
used as additional security but banding without taping is not permitted.
To enable handling no export carton may exceed a total gross weight of 15kg and base
measurements of 60cm length x 40cm width.
Retail pack
The type of retail packaging to be used is dependant upon the item being packed.
A retail pack should normally be either a corrugated cardboard carton or a plastic (poly) bag.
Cartons should be of suitable strength and design to minimize the risk of damage, injury or
misshaping of the goods during transit from Hemtex central warehouse to Hemtex retail
units, located throughout Scandinavia. Goods are packed together on to a pallet before being
bound together in plastic and transported by lorry to the designated retail unit.
Plastic (poly) bags should be of the following materials and comply with the latest EU
packaging directive for plastics. Hemtex recommend high clarity/gloss, polyethylene (PE),
polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics. When specified, bags
should be sealed with a top fold directly on to a 10 mm wide adhesive strip, the strip to be
located 12 mm from the top edge of the bag. Half moon ventilation holes should be included
when the contents require ventilation to maintain their quality.
Export cartons should be of a suitable strength and design to ensure that the products are
maintained in good order and to minimise the risk of damage, injury or misshaping of the
goods during transit from the supplier’s warehouse to Hemtex central warehouse.
All goods are distributed from Hemtex central warehouse to the designated retail unit on
standard wooden EUR pallets. These pallets have a standard measurement of 1200x800
mm (Measurements that are universal throughout Europe). In order to minimise Hemtex
storage and distribution costs it is important that wherever possible packaging conforms to
these measurement constraints.
To optimise the usage of the pallet size Hemtex AB requires that wherever possible export
carton sizes follow the following measurement guidelines.
The carton measurements may be less than the recommendations given below but should
never exceed the size of 600mm(Length)x400mm(width), without the confirmed agreement
of the relevant purchaser or Hemtex Purchase Office. Carton height is to be determined by
the size and number of the contents but should be standard for the order and preferably not
exceed a maximum of 600mm. Cartons in excess of these measurements are difficult to
store and transport effectively, resulting in unused pallet space which has to be paid for.

In order to ensure both quick and effective handling and delivery control all goods should be
securely loaded into the transport container/trailer in the following order. See example Fig
9:1.3. Each purchase order should be loaded and kept together and sorted by both article
and colour number.
Container/trailer
Container/Trailer Loading Plan - it is very important that it is clearly noted exactly which
articles from each order number are to be found in each respective container/trailer unit.
Hemtex require a container loading plan per container. This Container/Trailer Loading Plan
to be forwarded with all of the other documentation. (See documentation section 9)
Failure to comply with this loading instruction results in an extra handling and sorting charge.
Hemtex reserve the right to debit the supplier for this charge.
The size of the letters should be min 20 mm, or adapted to suit the size of the carton.
Markings should always be printed. Handwritten markings and adhesive labels are not
acceptable as these can be illegible and/or detach during transit.
In case of fragile goods the export carton should be marked accordingly to avoid damage
during transport.
Marking below should be placed on both of the short sides of the carton.
Note: Most of the information can be found on the Purchase Order.

* Note: (Exp. Carton ID Number) Export cartons should be separately identifiable each with an
individual identity (serial) number; this number to be stated on the packing list.
In case the retail pack is the same as the export carton (number of retail packs in the export
carton = 1) marking should be done according to chapter 8:2, see above.
