1. OBJECTIVE.

Establish general guidelines for repairing cracks in concrete floors

2. SCOPE.

Applied projects Constructora Garza Ponce SA de CV where required repairs for cracking concrete
floors.

3. REFERENCES.

 ACI 224
 Product Data Sheets

4. DEFINITIONS.

CRACKS precast: Cracks that occur before the concrete hardens, while it is still workable.
Cracking Hardening: Cracks that occur after hardened concrete.
Settlement cracks Plastic:Are those formed shortly after concrete is poured, as this plastic yet. They
are become larger to the extent that the concrete dries out and shrinks, and tends to follow the lines
of reinforcement.
Plastic shrinkage cracks:On hot days or low humidity and moderate winds. Cracking is more
common in the summer, but can occur during the winter.
Sealers Epoxies: Such sealants provide layers of high thickness and are ideal for structural repairs
due to its high compressive strength and bending.

5. Security aspects must be considered:

Epoxy resins are hazardous materials and should be treated as such. Safety practices in the work
shall include, but not limited to, the following:
• Information on safe handling of the product.
• Wearing protective clothing and eye protection where required.
• Using rubber gloves or protective creams for hand protection.
• Availability of eyewash facilities.
• Use of respirators where needed.
• Provide ventilation in enclosed areas.
• safe storage of hazardous materials.
• Cleaning materials needed by hand; Y
• Notify occupants of the proceedings pending repair.

6. RESPONSIBILITIES

Site manager: It is responsible for the implementation of this procedure.

Superintendent of Work: It is responsible for ensuring that their staff carry out the activities of
repairing cracks, according to the present process.
Resident Construction: It is responsible for implementing this procedure to repair cracks in slabs.

Quality Control Manager or designee: It is responsible for verifying the activities of this procedure
by the random review during the execution of work Repair cracks in slabs and document review in
accordance with the format indicated in the applicable certification

7. DEVELOPMENT OF PROCEDURE

7.1 Materials required.

 Epoxy seal.
 Gun Seal Epoxy Injection
 PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
 Facemasks.

Repair procedure:
7.2 Installation of input ports (see Fig. 1).

Install the ports of entry only after having prepared the surface properly. There are two types of input
ports available for the injection process:

 Surface mounted.
 Mounted on the nozzle.

The input ports (also called port adapters) can be any tubelike that allows effective transfer of the
epoxy resin under device
pressure in the crack. There are also spray guns with special nozzles with patented packaging for
use without adapters ports. The spacing between ports is typically 200 mm (8 in.) From center to
center, with greater spacing for wide cracks. The spacing of the ports can also depend on the
thickness of the concrete element. Input ports mounted on the surface are

Normally suitable for most cracks, but ports mounted nozzles are used when cracks are locked, such
as calcified concrete. The input ports can be connected by a multiple system when simultaneous
injection multiport an advantage.

7.3 Install the outer seal (see Fig. 2).

If installed properly, the outer seal retains the epoxy resin is injected under pressure as inside the
crack. When cracks penetrate through a section external seals work best when installed on both sides
of cracked element ensuring containment of the epoxy resin. External seals have been successfully
installed.

7.4 Inject epoxy resin

For successful injection of the epoxy resin, start with a suitable metering and mixing of the epoxy
components adhering strictly to the manufacturer's requirements. Before starting with the injection,
make sure the outer seal and adhesive port adapter been properly cured so that it can withstand
injection pressures.
In a horizontal crack start injection into the wider portion of the crack. (Be sure to locate and mark
these areas before installing the outer seal.) Typically, the vertical cracks are injected from the bottom
toward the top.

Continue injection until it overflows. When the injection port is completed, cover immediately.

7.5 Remove the ports and the outer seal

Upon completion of the injection process, remove the ports and the outer seal by heating, chiseling
or esmeril- ando. If appearance is not challenged by the customer, the outer seal can be left in place.
If required to remove it entirely to subsequently apply a veneering, prepare the concrete surface by
grinding.
