Setting of the cooling blocks (FF)


General
Manual section In this section of the manual the procedures for the setting of the cooling blocks are described.
The information in this section applies to the LHS of the machine. Repeat the same steps for
the RHS.

Before Before you can set up the cooling blocks, you have to set the adjustable slides.
See: Adjustable slides (FF) [9]).

When The cooling blocks must be set:


• when installing the machine
• if a cooling block is being replaced
• if the rapier wheel is being replaced

The rapier wheel

Check the rapier wheel


Check Proceed as follows to check the rapier wheel:
1 Move the movable slides to their maximum position.
See: Setting the movable slides [134].
2 Bring all the harnesses down by means of the testpatterns.
3 Set the machine to 180° using the slow motion buttons function.

4 Slide the gauge “A” (BA238228) into the slide “B”.

Make sure the stepped side is facing upwards!

5 Slide the gauge “A” (BA238228) until the rapier wheel “C” fits in the slot of the gauge.

6 check the position of the rapier wheel “C”.

The position is OK if the rapier wheel is in the middle of the slot in the gauge BA238228.
Set the position of the rapier wheel if the position is not OK.

Set the rapier wheel


Set Proceed as follows to set the rapier wheel:
1 Remove the rapier wheel. See Disassembly of the rapier wheel [81].
2 Remove the bolts "A" and the washer “B”from the rear end of the rapier wheel “C”.

3 Remove the tightening flange “D” at the front of the rapier wheel “C”.

4 Adjust the number of feeler gauges “E” according to the table below.

5 Fit the tightening flange “D” at the front of the rapier wheel “C”.

6 Fit the ring “B” at the rear of the rapier wheel “C” and tighten the bolts “A” crosswise (16.4 Nm).

The cooling blocks

Set the cooling blocks


Set Proceed as follows the set the upper cooling block.
1 Set the rapier wheel.
See: Check the rapier wheel [54].
2 Remove the rapier wheel “A”.

3 Place the upper cooling block “B” on the bolts “C”.

4 Check if the markings on the cooling block “B” are in line with the gauge “D” (BA238228).

Place or remove thickness plates “E” to change position of the cooling block. Repeat this
action until the markings of the cooling block are in line with the gauge “D”.
Mount the thickness plates that are not used on the front side of the cooling block so they
don’t get lost.
5 Hand tighten the bolts “C”.

6 Mount the terminal pieces “E”.

7 Measure and write down the distances “x” and “y”.

8 Place the lower cooling block “G” on the bolts “H”.

9 Place the same amount of thickness plates “I” as used for the upper cooling block and hand
tighten the bolts “H”.

Mount the thickness plates “I” that are not used on the front side of the cooling block so
they don’t get lost.

10 Place the terminal pieces “J” on the lower cooling block “G” and hand tighten the bolts “K”.

Mount also the plate “L” that positions the hoop.

11 Place the terminal pieces of the lower cooling block on the distances “x” and “y” as the upper
cooling block.

12 Mount the side guide “M” that is closest to the housing on the upper and lower cooling blocks.

Upper cooling block Lower cooling block

Make sure the the side guides are pulled against the stops of the terminal pieces.

13 Place the rapier wheel “N” and hand tighten the bolts “O”.

14 Turn the rapier wheel “N” until a spoke of the rapier wheel is perpendicular to the upper cooling
block “B”.
15 Slide the gauge BA238228 “D” further under the upper cooling block “C” until the teeth of the
rapier wheel “N” fit into the notches.
16 Press the cooling block “C” gently downwards and tighten the bolts “H” crosswise.

17 Turn the rapier wheel “N” until a spoke of the rapier wheel is perpendicular to the lower cooling
block “G”.
18 Slide gauge BA238228 “D” between the lower cooling block “G” and the rapier wheel “N” until
the teeth of the rapier wheel fit into the notches.
19 Press the cooling block “G” gently upwards and tighten the bolts “H” crosswise.

20 Remove the gauge BA238228 “D”.


21 Tighten the bolts “O” (80 Nm).

22 Mount the frontal side guides of the upper and the lower cooling blocks against the stops of the
terminal pieces.

Afterwards
Mount lubrication pin Proceed as follows to mount the lubrication pin support:
support 1 Apply Loctite 222 to the bolts “A”.
2 Place the lubrication stick suport “B” + washers “C” and tighten the bolts “A” (1 Nm).

Mounting the RHS Proceed as follows to mount the RHS opener:


opener 1 Fit the protection rail “A” onto the slide at the RHS of the machine.

2 Tighten with bolts "B".

Mounting the LHS Proceed as follows to mount the LHS suction nozzle:
suction nozzle 1 Fit the LHS suction nozzle “A” onto the slide at the RHS of the machine.

2 Tighten the LHS suction nozzle with the bolt “B” and the washer “C”.

Checking Proceed as follows to check the height of the hoops:
1 Remove the bolt “A”, the washer“B” and the side guide “C”.

2 Check the distance between the top of the cooling block “D” and the L-support “E”.

1,5 mm

The L-support must be parallel with the top of the cooling block.

You have to reset the height of the hoop if the distance between them is not 1,5 mm.
See: Set the height [77].
3 Place the side guide “C”, the washer“B” and tighten the bolt “A”.

Set the height


When The height of the hoops must be set if the position proves to be incorrect after checking.
See: Check the height [75].

Adjustment Use the following procedure to set the hoop height:

1 Loosen the bolt "A".
2 Move the L-support “B” to its correct A
position.

3 Tighten bolt "A".
4 Check the height.
