o GOAL: Encourage student engagement in reading comprehension and connection to History-Social
Science standards.
o SAMPLE: OBJECTIVE: Develop and implement at least one project based learning activity for
Ancient Civilizations (short/long-term).
o RATIONALE: Reflects new History-Social Science Standards K-12 emphasis on interactive
learning.
o NBPTS: Proposition 2: Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to
students.
o TLMD: Domain 4. Facilitating Improvements in Instruction and Student Learning.
o TEACHER INQUIRY: I will develop my skills in teaching the standards through student engagement.

I will develop my leadership in Professional Development (All Content Areas)


o GOAL: Provide creative ideas for teachers with a focus on implementation of project based learning
lessons and 21st Century Skills
o RATIONALE: There are many benefits to developing interactive and thought-provoking lessons for
students (J Larmer, JR Mergendoller - Educational leadership)
o NBPTS: Proposition 5: Teachers are members of learning communities.
o TLMD: Domain 3. Promoting Professional Learning for Continuous Improvement.
o OBJECTIVE: Serve as a mentor and resource for teachers in my school community (short/long-term).

I will develop my leadership in Curriculum


o GOAL: Ensure the development and/or selection of curriculum that is pedagogically appropriate and
encompasses strategies for building conceptual understanding.
o RATIONALE: Brown and Kane argue that conceptual understanding leads to abilities of transferring
skills to new situations.
o NBPTS: Proposition 2: Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to
students.

o OBJECTIVE: Serve on our school’s curriculum committee for my content area (short-term).

o GOAL: Use a variety of qualitative and quantitative assessments for instructional improvement,
continuity of writing expectations, and student growth.
o RATIONALE: Use of Rubistar helps students focus, think about the task, and write clearly.
o NBPTS: Proposition 3: Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning.
o TLMD: Domain 5. Promoting the Use of Assessments and Data for School Improvement.
o OBJECTIVE: Develop rubrics for scoring document-based questions and streamline writing
expectations (short-term).
