SIMPLE PRESENT They repair cars. Cars are repaired.

PRESENT CONTINUOUS They are repairing cars. Cars are being repaired.
SIMPLE PAST They repaired cars. Cars were repaired.
PAST CONTINUOUS They were repairing cars. Cars were being repaired.
PRESENT PERFECT They have repaired cars. Cars have been repaired.
PAST PERFECT They had repaired cars. Cars had been repaired.
SIMPLE FUTURE They will repair cars. Cars will be repaired.
MODALS They can repair cars. Cars can be repaired.

FORM
The passive voice is formed with the verb to
be and the past participle of the main verb.
Steps to change from active to passive voice:
The object of the active sentence becomes the
subject of the passive one.
The verb to be in the passive sentence is in
the same tense as the main verb in the active
sentence.
In the passive sentence, we use the past
participle of the main verb in the active
sentence.
When we want to mention who performed the
action, we use the word By By Agent
USE
We use a passive structure when the action is
more important than the person who does/did
it.
Toyota cars are made in Japan.
When we don’t know who did the action.
My house was broken into last night.
When the agent is obvious
English is spoken all over the world.

Only sentences that have transitive verbs (verbs that have an object) can be changed into
passive voice.
They ate all the pizza. (ate is a transitive verb and the object is the pizza)
When the subject of the active voice is one of the following words: someone, she, he, they,
people, etc, we omit the agent in the passive sentence.
Somebody stole my umbrella. My umbrella was stolen by somebody.
Object pronouns in the active sentence turn into subject pronouns in the passive sentence.
My parents love me. I am loved by my parents.
When the active sentence has two objects, one direct object (thing) and one indirect object
(person), we prefer to use the indirect object as the subject of the passive sentence.
My parents gave me a mobile phone for my birthday. (Me is the indirect object and a mobile
phone is the direct object.)
I was given a mobile phone for my birthday.
