Plan a large group activity that is developmentally appropriate for toddlers and historically and culturally sensitive. Don’t forget to turn in the large group planned for in
activity materials with your plan. this activity

Title: Brown Bear Peek-A-Boo

IELG Outcome: IELG D5 G48 Ages 18 to 36 months CI1 Responds to words with appropriate behavior
or gesture; receptive language.

The skills this activity promotes: Peek-A-Boo skills are highly promoted in this activity. Also, following along with a story and becoming aware of how a
story goes is also promoted.

Activity Description: In this activity, the toddlers will have the opportunity to interact with the book using felt bear mittens. They will play peek-a-boo
with the animals in the book.

Adaptations for individual toddlers: We will be using carpet squares so the toddlers know where to sit. The toddlers may just use their hands if they do
not want to put on the mittens.

Teacher Script

Introduction Script (What will you say and do to get their attention and introduce the activity?): Boys and Girls! We are going to read Brown Bear Brown
Bear by Eric Carle. We are going to play peek-a-boo with the animals in Brown Bear Brown Bear.

Expectations for children (What will you say and do to show the children how to participate in the activity?): Boys and girls we are to stay on the carpet
squares so all of our friends have the chance to see. (We will put mittens on.) Now boys and girls lets practice playing peek-a-boo. When I say brown bear
brown bear what do you see, cover your eyes and open them up when I say I see a…. lets all try it. (model for class). Now we will do that with each animal.
(start reading book)

Handing out props (how will you hand out props): My teachers will have a couple pairs of mittens that they will hand out when the children get sat
down.

During the activity (What are you saying and doing during the activity for the children to model?): I will say “Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see”
the children will say with us, “ I see a red bird looking at me. (and the next animal and next animal. I will hold up a picture of the animal so the children can
see which one is next when they take the bear mittens away from their eyes. I will have another teacher up front to show them how to cover their eyes
the first day. After they get the hang of it, I will just use one mitten for myself to cover my eyes and hold up the animal.

Closing Script (What will you say and do to end the activity and transition to the next thing?): Say The End. I will then introduce Solmary to do her
activity.

Collecting props (how will you collect the props?) I will tell the students to give their mittens to the closest teacher and sit back down.
