EDUCATION
Office of theMinister
March 8, 2019
Further to my February 20, 2019 letter, I would like to provide you with an update on the
progress to finding a solution to accommodate your high school program. I appreciate hearing
the concerns expressed in this matter from your board, as well as from families that are part of
your school community.
During previous meetings, beginning in October 2015, Alberta Education staff held discussions
with Calgary Board of Education, Calgary Catholic School Division and your staff to discuss
potential solutions for the accommodation of your high school students.
Based on today's conversation between my Deputy Minister, Curtis Clarke and your
Superintendent, Roger Nippard, I believe we have an understanding that pursuing a replacement
solution on the current Montgomery School site is the most advantageous option to bringing this
issue to a swift resolution. Our staff will continue to engage with your administrative and
facilities staff, as well as Alberta Infrastructure to determine a feasible replacement option on
this site and will proceed with the next steps in moving this project forward.
Our government has been firm in its commitment to ensure that Alberta's students learn in good
schools. We are building and modernizing 244 schools across Alberta to catch up on years of
neglect and broken promises by the previous government. To be clear, funding has never been
cancelled for this project. Like they did in so many other situations, the previous government
made a commitment to your school community to renovate Montgomery School with no plans to
follow through on that commitment. We will actually see to it that your school is replaced to
meet the needs of your students.
Sincerely,
n
