Grammar

Auxiliary Verbs

Auxiliary verbs are helping verbs. Auxiliary verbs are used to make
sentences negative and also to ask questions. They are also used in
other grammatical tenses.

Do - Does - Did

I need some change. We took the cab.


I do not (don’t) need any change. We did not (didn’t) take the cab.
Do I need some change? Did we take the cab?
Do I need any change? Didn’t we take the cab?
Don’t I need change?

He likes vegetables. They got the bus.


He does not (doesn’t) like They did not (didn’t) get the bus.
vegetables. Did they get the bus?
Does he like vegetables? Didn’t they get the bus?
Doesn’t he like vegetables?

Have - Has - Had


The verb to have is used in the Present Perfect Tense and Past Perfect
Tense which will be explained later.

Be - Am - Is - Are -Was - Were


The verb to be is used in the Present Progressive (Continuous) Tense and
the Past Progressive (Continuous) tense which will be explained later.
