most materials.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
An important aspect of today's quality systems is
to maintain appropriate controls of instruments
used to measure, verify, test and / or accept
material(s). Verification that the instrument and
its consumables are within specification is the
basis to ensure repeatable and reproducible
results.
The Calibration Verification Kit provides a fast,
reliable system check to verify if a Taber Rotary
Platform Abraser is within calibration. When
properly used, this cost effective method enables
users to determine if an instrument should be
returned to the factory for recalibration or repair
prior to it's scheduled calibration.
Procedures outlined in this kit allow the user to
verify:

should be positioned in a ventilated area near the
Abraser.

With the operating units in position, verify the

the suction must be measured with the adja

Replace any detective or leaking components
and retest.

lf a leak cannot be identified, check the line volt

age applied to the vacuum unit. lf the line voltage
applied is below the local allowable standard, this
o
may be contributing to the reduced vacuum level.

lf any of the above mentioned causes for vacuum

loss are not found, the vacuum unit itself may be
the cause. This may require replacement of the
vacuum unit.

► WARNING: Using a non-approved vacu

um unit may provide inadequate or exces
sive suction, which will affect test results.

MAINTENANCE FACTORY SERVICE
Precision testing instruments should be calibrat
ed regularly to ensure critica! components are
within established tolerance specifications. This
will ensure accurate measurement results.
Should your Taber Rotary Platform Abraser
require repair or adjustment, carefully pack it in a
rugged container with plenty of cushioning mate
rial. Afler obtaining a return authorization number
o
(RMA#) from the factory, the unit should be
• Keep the main unit and surrounding areas shipped, transportation charges prepaid, to:
free from grit and abradings by cleaning fre
quently.

clean by wiping with a soft cloth.
(716) 694-4000
• When lowering the abrading heads from
their upright position, it is essential that the
arms are gripped firmly so as not to drop
them. A hard blow against the specimen
table may cause misalignment and inaccu
rate test results.
• Orive shafl and holder bares are machined
to clase tolerances. Never force on a holder
when dirt is present on either. Forcing may
damage the holder bore and affect its accu
racy, or make it difficult to remove the hold
er without damaging the motor.

o
• Bearings of the main unit and vacuum are
grease lubricated and sealed, and may
require factory attention only afler years of
service.
• To avoid damage to the membrane keypad
circuitry, do not place items on the keypad.
Use gentle pressing on buttons as exces
sive force may cause cracking.
• When not in operation, keep the instrument
protected from dust and foreign matter by
using a cover.
• lf the instrument is not to be used far a peri
ad of time, remove the abrading wheels and
store in their original containers.

RECOMMENDATION: To ensure repeatable

and reproducible results, TABER Industries
recommends annual factory calibration.
