I. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION

This program tries to alleviate the health and social condition of senior citizens in Sto.

Rosario. This could also be used in the program of the govt. the “tokhang” which

could help people find alternatives or recreational ways to forget people about their

wrong doings and let the people make use of their time and also be productive. But in

this scenario were going to focus much more on the senior citizens in Sto. Rosario.

Sto. Rosario is a barangay in Iligan with a population of approximately 2300, which

roughly a tenth of its population are senior citizens. Respectively the most of this

seniors live in the zone’s 6 and 4. Most of the senior citizens are retirees from public

and private agencies which only are dependent financially on pensions or small
businesses for example, sari-sari store, seldom leave their houses which inhibits them

from the physical activities and also socializing with other people. Most of the

common illnesses that the senior citizens acquire because of old age are osteoarthritis,

diabetes, dementia and cardiovascular diseases and etc. this program tries to alleviate

them physically and socially. Well Regular physical activity and exercise are

important to the physical and mental health of almost everyone, including older

persons. Staying physically active and exercising regularly can produce long-term

health benefits and even improve health for some older people who already have

diseases and disabilities. That's why health experts say that older people should aim

to be as active as possible. Although exercise and physical activity are among the

healthiest things you can do for yourself, some older people are reluctant to exercise.

Some are afraid that exercise will be too hard or that physical activity will harm them.

Others might think they have to join a gym or have special equipment. For the most

part, when older people lose their ability to do things on their own, it doesn't happen

just because they've aged. It's usually because they're not active. Lack of physical

activity also can lead to more visits to the doctor, more hospitalizations, and more use

of medicines for a variety of illnesses. Scientists have found that staying physically

active and exercising regularly can help prevent or delay many diseases and

disabilities. In some cases, exercise is an effective treatment for many chronic

conditions. For example, studies show that people with arthritis, heart disease, or

diabetes benefit from regular exercise. And also Communal exercise is best way to let

older adults socialize and keep them not just physically healthy but also socially and

mentally healthy, by this communal exercise the seniors could have time to socialize
with others and try to talk about things such as bible studies, special masses, retreats

and other kinds of religious services and will also give seminars such in livelihood

services such as provisions of self employment assistance to supplement their

earnings. And of course this is a health improving program our organization with the

help of other NGO’s will provide breakfast for the said participants in order to

compensate the energy expended from doing the said program and also giving the

right nutrition needed by the senior citizens.

This program tries to alleviate them physically and socially. By making this program

possible we made a formal arrangement with the officials of the senior citizens

association in order for them to inform their associates about the said program. We

even talked to the barangay officials and they give aid by assuring us that they will let

us use the court and their sound system and they even provided us a zumba instructor

who was also the instructor of the previous weekly zumba program in the barangay

which is now inactive. And we would be the ones helping in organizing this program

and try to fix subsequent lapses.

II. OBJECTIVES

This project proposal will provide social and health care management for the senior citizens in
Sto. Rosario, this project will meet the following objectives:

1.) Increase the ability of older adults to remain active, healthy and living independently in their
