Mode 4 (0≤ 𝑡 ≤ 𝑡4 ):
As switch S is turned off at t= 0, capacitor begins
to supply the load current 𝐼0 as shown in fig3.1.(mode-4).

The selection of the resonant inductor and capacitor is 𝑉𝑑 (𝑡𝑜𝑓𝑓2 ) = 12(1 − cos(303.6)) = 5.36𝑉
determined by the need to satisfy the relation
The time until 𝑉𝑑 reaches zero is:
Vin 1
> 𝐼𝑜𝑢𝑡 t=𝑉𝑑 (𝑡𝑜𝑓𝑓2 )/(𝐼𝑜𝑢𝑡 ⁄𝐶𝑑 ) = 5.36 ÷ ( ) = 1.072 𝜇𝑠
ZC 0.2×10−6
So the diode current will be zero in micro seconds after the Since the desired output is 5V then:
transistor turn on, then the circuit enters into mode 2.
5 = (1.47 ∗ 10−4 + 2.87 ∗ 10−6 )/T
𝑍𝑐 = √𝐿𝑟 ⁄𝐶𝑟 = √20⁄0.2 = 10 Ω
T = 29.97 µs ≅ 30𝜇𝑠
(𝑖𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑎𝑙𝑠𝑜 𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑑 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑐 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒)
So from above we get f ≅ 33.33 kHz in ideal condition.
According to relation given in modes of operation, But in practical case we have to take care the drop across
the diode also over the period of time which is around 1.5
𝐼𝑜𝑢𝑡 = 𝑉𝑖𝑛 ⁄𝑍𝑐 = 12/10= 1.2 𝐴 V during turn on time of diode.
This show 6T=(147+2.87)-1.5(T-33.53)
𝑉𝑖𝑛 ⁄𝑍𝑐 > 𝐼𝑜𝑢𝑡 . So the resonant condition gets fulfilled. [33.53 is the off time of diode]
However if the load increases above 1.2 A, this LC Which gives T ≅ 30.79 µs and frequency = 32.478 kHz By
combination will no longer support soft switching. taking other no ideality in MOSFET, inductor, capacitor
practical switching frequency is coming around 36.6 kHz.
𝑊𝑟 = 1⁄√𝐿𝐶 = 500000 rad/sec
𝑊𝑟 𝑡𝑜𝑓𝑓 =56.4426
𝑡𝑜𝑓𝑓2 = 359.99 ∗ 𝜋/180 ∗ 500000 = 12.6 𝜇𝑠 The proposed ZCS buck converter for USB power
adapter 5V, 1A is presented. The converter features were
