teacher explains the activity.
•The butterfly pegs will be spread out throughout the
outdoor area. Tell the children there are 5 butterfly
pegs they must visit, yellow, red, green, blue, pink.
•Tell children they need to find the different
ingredients after they have written down their
answer. (The teacher will spread these materials near
the relevant butterfly pegs before the lesson)
•Also tell the children that to hear the recordings the
children must press the button on the butterflies
head.
•5 butterfly pegs recordings:
- Yellow: “You need to find 10 leaves, whats one way
you can make 10? Record your answer on your paper”
- Blue: “You need to find 3 feathers, whats one way
you can make 3? Record your answer on your paper”
- Green: “You need to find 7 pebbles, whats one way
you can make 7? Record your answer on your paper”
- Red: “You need to find 5 nuts, whats one way you can
make 5? Record your answer on your paper”
- Pink: “You need to find 4 creepy crawly's, whats one
way you can make 5? Record your answer on your
paper”
•Give out baskets, paper and pencils for students to
go off with. Allow 10 minutes
Conclusion:
•Students will then be called back, where they will be
given iPads.
•Each child must take 5 photos of each cluster of
ingredients the have gathered e.g. Take a photo of
the nuts, feathers and bugs separately.
•Tell Children to open the “camera” if children have
difficulty show them the camera app image.
•And turn the camera landscape.
•Make sure to point out that children must hold the
iPad still with two hands.
•Then ask children to open Pic Collage: Students will
need to click “get started” and select their 5 pictures
•The children can choose a grid of their choice to
display the pictures.
•They must then press “text” where they will add their
name somewhere on the collage.
•Children will then press “done” and export the image
to library.
•Collect iPads and working out paper.
•Key Questions:
- “What do you think we are doing with the materials?”
- Explain that we are making our own Wombat Stew
Recipe Book.
•Ask children to put their ingredients into a plastic
sandwich bag that you have already pre labeled and
explain that we will be using them next time to
continue our wombat stew project.
