Company Background

Machinery Reliability Systems (MRS)

provides outsourced-maintenance
services for companies; targeting
equipment with unreliable and
problematic operations. Equipment
covered include hydraulics and other
mechanical systems such as gearboxes,
bearings and diesel engines. MRS
offers solutions to permanently correct
common machinery operational
problems such as: overheating;
frequent seal replacements; oil
leakages; short parts life especially
pumps, control valves, and cylinders in
hydraulics (<1-2 years); slow/erratic operations, and high fuel/energy consumption.

MRS utilizes a multi-disciplinary scientific approach to systematically diagnose, and correct the root
causes of equipment failures and inefficient operations—mechanical engineering, materials
science, physics, chemistry, lubrication engineering, & fluid mechanics. This combination of
sciences targeted to prevent equipment wear and tear, which leads to unreliable equipment is
called Tribology; a relatively new science, introduced at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
in 1968.

Speeding up the unloading and loading operations of every vessel for a major domestic shipping
company from three days to less than a day through improvements in the hydraulics of the deck
cranes; improving the reliability of the most troublesome equipment for a major automotive
parts/engine manufacturer and generating Php 300,000/month savings on that equipment alone
through the elimination of oil leakages and premature part failures; permanently solving the age-
old problem of frequent production stoppages due to failures encountered on mould presses in a
ceramic/tile factory; saving the buyer of a Php 3.0 Billion Integrated Steel Mill from having the same
fate as the original owners which went bankrupt due to the inability to meet production targets
due to frequent mill equipment failures- these are a few concrete examples of what we can do to
improve any company’s bottom-line; and even revenue.

The service includes everything needed to immediately turn-around the operation of any
equipment such as machine audit/failure investigation, parts, labor, technical supervision,
consumables, lubricants, retro-fit equipment/accessories, machine upgrading, equipment turn-
over and management reporting.

MRS also offers supply of lubricants and engine oil, hydraulic filters (ISO Standard) and
other contamination control systems to help extend equipment life and improve
reliability. The MRS supply agreement for engine oils and hydraulic filters includes
complementary technical services such as on-site oil analysis, hydraulic system checks,
and other activities to bring the equipment to good operating condition.

The company was incorporated in 2003 for one purpose: To improve the reliability and
productivity of equipment in Philippine industry whatever it takes. Over the last fourteen
years (14) years the company has invested a lot on research and development across all
industries to develop a permanent solution to recurring equipment issues and failures so
pervasive in Philippine industry. MRS offers this equipment conservation strategy as an
alternative to breakdown maintenance so common in local industry.
The founder, Edgardo Y. Duavit, Jr., is a practicing Tribologist with over twenty seven years
of experience gained from the oil and maintenance service industry. He is backed-up by
talent coming from different fields: electro-mechanical, hydraulics, diesel mechanics,
marine & mechanical equipment repair/maintenance.
