How To Use GCom Avaya One X Communicator [Softphone]

 Open the One X Communicator [Softphone] application

 Login using your full 11 digit GCom number and your 6-digit password

 You can place and receive calls using:

 My Computer or Desk Phone - select which mode (Recommended – My Computer)

 Login and save settings – NOTE: if you want to change modes for a specific session only and
leave your defaults, select One-time login.

 When you login to softphone, if you have a GCom desk phone already logged in, you will receive
the message below. Click yes if you want to temporarily disable your desk phone and make your
softphone only active. Once you logout of your softphone, your desk phone will automatically
become active again.
 The default application view is shown below.

 If you want to display the dial pad and features associated with your GCom phone/softphone
service as shown below, click on the Show Dialpad button.

NOTE: Before placing any calls using your Avaya softphone, please familiarize yourself with the GCom
Dialing instructions below.

GCom Dialing Instructions


Placing an Outside Call  No dial “9” or other access code required

No Phone Extensions Apply  GCom uses only Direct Dial numbers


 To call others within your GE facility, dial their
7 digit direct dial number or 1+10 digits
 Example: 755-xxxx or 1-617-xxxx

Calling within your GCom number  Either 7 digit or 1+10 digit dialing will work
Area Code  Example: 755-xxxx or 1-617-xxxx

Calling outside your GCom number  Use standard 1+10 digit dialing
Area Code  Applies for other Area Codes within a major
metro area as well
 Example: 1-857-292-xxxx

Calling International  Dial 011 plus the international number


 Example: 011-44-208118xxxx
 Place a Call

 Enter the phone number in the Enter name or number field using the GCom Dialing instructions.
 Click on the Place Call button.

 Answer a Call

 To answer a call, click the Accept button on the incoming call window.
 To ignore the call, click on the Ignore button . The ringer will stop but the call will still
cover to your GCom voice mail.

 Active Call Buttons Available

 While active on a call, you have the following buttons available as shown above:
o Mute
o Hold
o Transfer
o Hang Up
 Create a Conference Call

 When you have 2 active calls, you can conference them together by clicking the Conference
button
o When you have more than one call active, the Conference button will appear at the
bottom of the call display
 NOTE: if you are active on only one call and want to conference in a second person, put the
first call on hold – dial the number you want to conference in. Once the second call is
established, the Conference button will appear
o To drop the last participant added to the conference call, click the Drop button
o To disconnect from the conference call, click the Hang Up button

 Display Call Log

 Click on the Show Call Log button

 Call into the GCom Voice Mail system

 If you have messages waiting, a light will appear in the upper left hand corner of the
application
 While in the Show Dialpad mode (instructions above), click on the Voice Mail button
 To View/Add Contacts

 Click on the Contacts button (upper left of the application) to bring up the Contacts window
 To launch a call for a contact, click on the Handset icon next to the contact name
 To Show Details for a contact, click on the contact menu drop down to the far right of the
contact name and select show details in the drop down

 To Add Contacts, you must be in the contacts window. From that window, click on the
Menu drop down (upper right of the application) highlighted in green. In the drop down,
click on Contacts, Add Contact …

 SET UP ACCESS TO GE GLOBAL ADDRESS LIST (for use w Windows PC only)


 Click on the symbol in the top right hand corner of the application
 Click on “Settings, General Settings”
 Choose “Public Directory”
 Complete the fields with the following information:
 Directory Type = Active Directory
 Directory Name = e2k
 Server Address = e2k.ad.ge.com
 User name = (your SSO)@e2k.ad.ge.com
 Password = your SSO password
 Search Root = DC=e2k,DC=ad,DC=ge,DC=com
 Server Port = 389
 Timeout = 1000
 Max Entries = 50
 Click on the “Use Active Directory GSS Bind” box

 HOW TO USE THE GAL IN SOFTPHONE


1. Type the name you want to search for in the white box

2. Hit the “magnifying glass” icon to begin the search


3. After you get the list of matching names, you can dial directly from the entry
4. Click on the telephone handset icon to the right of the name

5. Click the number you want to dial, if multiple numbers are shown

6. NOTE: You have the option to “edit” the number before dialing, e.g. if the format of the number
listed is not consistent with GCom dialing instructions. Once the number is correct, hit ok and
the application will make the call.
