ROLE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE FUTURE OF SMART CITIES

Artificial intelligence is setting a never-ending trend in the society. How different

was the world we live in a few decades back and how lifestyle has completely
transform today is also somehow due to AI.

Whenever we are using various social media eg: Facebook , Instagram, youtube
etc. or hiring an Uber taxi through our smartphone, all of them are handled by
artificial intelligence. In fact, when we were browsing the internet from google
or some other search engine, it was Artificial Intelligence who optimized the
search.

We can solve a lot of urban problems by technology. Smart cities are already
using AI at a greater pace than yesterday, in some countries like USA ,Canada,
Japan etc. various technology are used to make the city smarter and smarter.In
order to make smart city, artificial intelligence (AI in short) plays a vital role,
artificial intelligence should be used as a tool which helps us to nail the board
onto the wall where ‘nailing the board’ is truly our goal. The team to carry out
the idea should be equipped with this essential tool to help them solve problems
successfully. One more thing to be noted is, Artificial Intelligence should be
used if it is the best way to achieve a task and not be forced into the decision.

Many cities are starting to deploy new technology, to help on some issue faced
by the citizen. There is a growing use of Artificial intelligence, machine learning,
deep learning, sensors , internet of things(IOT) and some other intelligence use.
For example in urban areas there are some sensors which can tell us where
open parking are there in a parking lot, and also there are mobile app which can
tell the driver where the traffic congestion is and where we can avoid those
problems, and there are buildings design in a way to improve sustainability in
term of heating, energy utilization which are very popular.

The first question that comes to our mind is, why do cities want to be smarter?
maybe it contributes sustainability to the city particularly? In what ways cities
will be more efficient and have allocate resources, the workability of the city like
how can cities enable to mobile medicine as well as livability.
Artificial intelligence already helps a lot in developing cities smarter by each
day, in the future we may be able to bring laptops instead of bagpacks in
school, and be able to get access to what we need easily, and able to do
interesting thing in addition to serving population at a very desperately located
area whether in a rural or urban, or getting services right through individual.

When looking at the evolution of smart cities there is a thing about the
engagement of sensor technology of the new technology where that would have
cut off the low income family or people, the amount of time going to the place
to work, the amount of impact on the health care system, and it would have
improve the quality of live and ability to work. As we look at the framework of
smart city we will be getting to see where evolution meets with economic
development and human care. We will be able to get a better security and
better live for each individuals, in a way like parents need not to worry for their
children, and be able upgrade the ability of our robots so that they will be 100%
trustworthy for human, many works done by human can be done by robots as
in many task robots are more perfect than humans.

If we think about traffic lights, we are also relying on many devices that are
part of that networks, it is really important that the security is built on each of
those elements, the other thing that AI introduce is potential vulnerability in the
models themselves, so if the models can be reversed engineered they can be
tracked and also models are very intellectual property so they need to be
protected, so the whole notion and security is extremely critical and there is no
substitute for the security being implemented at the design time. The second
element is notion of using artificial intelligence and city data for stronger
security, and we have lots of example that are starting to emerge in there,
straight forward like smart street lighting that have the ability to notice that
there is unusual congestion or to do gunshot detection sort of thing and feed
that data to be analyze, also we can use artificial intelligence techniques and
machine learning to detect the anomalies behavior even at the individual
computer level so it detect where an application is behaving in a way that it
should not.

Artificial intelligence and the extended use in smart cities is really thrives on
data, so we need lots of data to do the training of the data to create robust
models for the artificial intelligence and security can be used to unleashed and
liberate that data in a way that protect the privacy, if that’s and important
consideration for whatever the data set is and also protect the algorithms
around it, so the security technology that is being enabler of the artificial
intelligence and the applications for it.

Artificial intelligence is nowhere near the same powerful cross domain ability to
learn and plan as a human being, of course it still has algorithmic tricks yet we
don’t know how to matching machine. So the question is how far are we from
matching those tricks. But the elevation in artificial intelligence is progressively
unlocking the path to chances, especially for smart city development. The works
that were once manually done by human being have been taken over by AI
which denotes an era of evolution in technology. Many scientist and people who
have knowledge about Artificial intelligence have opinion that Artificial
Intelligence could be the game charge for an impact on our world, which can be
a lot greater than the Industrial Revolution back in the day.

With some knowledge from few technologically visible cities across the world,
Artificial intelligence is the game changer in the smart city. In countries like
China as a part of the project, in some of its cities Artificial intelligence is used
to tracked people while they are staying online in social media or moving
around the community. All the data are collected by Artificial intelligence to
make a real time choice.

A lot of what we have to do is, think about the data that we hold and how we
can use to solve problem using artificial intelligence. If we have enough data we
can improve many things like transports, teaching, services running for the
customers more efficiently and better ,in order to make the city smarter. When
speaking of smart cities the thing that comes to our mind is technology, how
that technology can make the city better and smarter, and what ways can it
contribute towards in the quality of life. As of today we used Artificial
intelligence through our mobile but as we mention earlier, Artificial intelligence
is nowhere near the same powerful cross domain ability to learn and plan as a
human being, so we need to learn more about the algorithm so that we can
transform our cities more smarter and contributes sustainability to the city.
