A DAY WITHOUT TECHNOLOGY

Let’s go back to the day where technology not been invented yet. When it
comes to communication people try to write letters to send their messages, spending
time to their family, playing games outside, going to library to read books, and talking
to people personally. In terms of transportations people use “kalesa” and others that
have no involvement of technology. But there is a big different now; it is because of
technology, it become easier, faster and more comfortable. Today’s generation
dependent on the technology we have. Television with cable, cellphones with unlimited
texting and calling, nonstop access to the internet, eBooks, iPads etc. are just some of
the things that our generation has today. These are the things that we "must have", not
only because they are useful, but they provide leisure as well. But what if one day you
wake up that all the things we have today are gone. Can we survive without
technology? Or how can we continue our life if we are not the ones we are today? How
can we communicate to others if we rely on technology and forget the things we do
before the technology invented?

According in the article (2015) “The importance of keeping up with Technology in

the workplace” Technology is inescapable. It pervades every facet of our life. From how
we work, play, live our lives, technology has created a revolution that will grow for a
long as humans continue to advance in their capabilities. Technology just gets better
and better. What was once the latest and greatest yesterday? The bottom line is,
technology doesn’t wait for us and if your organization isn’t keeping up with it, you will
surely be left in the dust by one of the competitors. In this article explain how
important technology is. Yes I agree that technology is inescapable because nowadays
we all using technology in very activities. It says that if technology gone it have a big
impact to our surroundings we must fall behind. Especially technology is important on
work place as an organization keeping ahead of technology is necessity if your
organization anticipates long term stability and growth, and also technology helps when
it comes to your product innovation, also for you clients easily to contact if the product
or services they receive has failures. Technology also helps to get so many
opportunities; technology has allowed people and business to communicate with each
other on the multiple levels. Through emails, text, social media. If the organization not
keeping with the technology to stay in front of its clients, then it will miss many more
opportunities to close.

According to Jason, Frand L. (2016) in his article "The Information Age Mindset:
Changes in Students and Implications for Higher Education" observed that today's
young students take technology for granted and that staying connected is a central part
of their lives. In this article said that millennial obviously abusing technology, the rest of
their activities depends on the technology even when they play they use internet or
online games like mobile legend almost their hours focusing on their gadgets.

Similarly, in the book entitled “Handbook of Research on Instructional Systems

and educational Technology” edited by Kidd, Terry, Morris, Jr., Lonnie R. (2017) cited
Paul Hagner (2002), found that these people not only possess the skills necessary to
use these new communication forms, but there is an ever increasing expectation on
their part that these new communication paths be used. It says that using technology
the way of communicating have an improvement; people have necessary skills on how
to communicate using modern communication technology and this skill can be used in
many ways. Without technology, these will no longer be any method for
communication. Without mobile phones, computer or the internet, most of the
communication will be gone. People far away from each other will no longer be able to
interact with each other. With a major part of communication gone, there will no longer
be exchanges between countries, which will result in a great loss of productivity. Man-
made and natural resources, native to one place, will also become hard to transport.
Moreover, as internet will be lost, business platform for several people will collapse.
Several people today interact and do their business online, and have set up their
websites on the internet, however, without internet; these people will be forced to
some other resort. Advertising, merchant, brokerage, manufacturer, community, utility,
subscription, internet marketing and affiliate community models, everything will go into
rapid decline.

According to H. Montrieux (2015) in his journal “Teaching and Learning with

mobile technology: students achievement, students experiences toward the role of the
teacher and students’ perceptions towards learning with tablets within the three
conditions were investigated. In the first condition, the classroom script included
learning activities that were balanced between the group and the level. Second
condition, the learning activities occurred predominantly on the group level. Third,
entailed the classroom script as the control condition in which the learning activities
were situated only on the classroom level, with the tablet used in traditional way or as
“book behind glass”. In this journal tackles about how in classroom teach using
technology that can helps the students in their achievements. Teachers and students
share their own perception to know their learning on it. But as a teacher you must have
a differed knowledge about it because you will analyze if the students right or to need
improvements on what they say. But in classroom teaching and learning with mobile
technology is one of the way of modern technology in his journal, it can be possible if
the modern and tradition method combines in teaching students. For the students not
relying on the internet in their almost of their activities it is good to combined the
traditional way of learning called the “book behind the glass” using tablets they can
make it as a references on their studies. They can use tablets as a book and also have
a advantages if there is a word that you didn’t know because of internet you can easily
browser it. It is possible to combined tradition and modern in the way of learning and
teaching.

According to U.S Rep. Bill Shuster (2014). In the article “Technology plays key
role in transportation”. Progress in our society and economy typically comes about
because of new technologies, or advances in utilizations of technology the assembly line
or the internet, for example. This is true for transportation as well. Think of the
economic opportunities provided by the transcontinental railroad, when it supplanted
the horse-drawn wagon as the means to connect east, west, and the vast interior of our
nation; or the way the jet engine and commercial aviation began connecting every
corner of the world in the 20th century; or the role the automobile plays in our day-to-
day lives. Intersection between technology and transportation that has received a lot of
media coverage is autonomous vehicle technology. Even the transportation we use has
technology. The cars, vehicle that’s we use to go to your destination faster and easier.
Without technology today and we only use “kalesa” to go to school or somewhere it is
difficult for us to go faster.
In summary to the review of related literature technology affect workplace, how
to communicate, in classroom, the ways we learned and also for the business. It shows
that technology is the center of our life and also most of our activities. When
technology exists and people use it, it becomes easier and efficient. Most of our
activities become successful because of internet or the technology. We get so many
opportunities. And since technology has developed so much, from computer technology
to mobile technology, it’s helped us to bridge the gap that people all around the world
have today. So that there is no longer to avoid between people of one country and
another. That avoid gets smaller and smaller as our technology evolves over time and
at the speed in which it increases, we can only assume that the use of technology our
world have become more improvements .

I therefore conclude that as a human it is a nightmare that one day we open our
eyes without technology we use today, without the things that we have today. With
technology, we have the tools available to us that make it easier to manage our day to
day lives and exchange valuable information to our friends and family and other people,
almost instantaneously. Back many decades ago however, these tools weren’t available
to mankind and he would have had to go through a process of first discovering the
ability and then evolving enough to turn it into a tool we could all use. As part of
modern generation that whole of my life surrounds technology, it is hard for me to do
things without the help of technology. To communicate, in school, transportation all of
that have technology. How can I communicate? Without smart phones or sites, how can
I go to school faster without technology? How can I use my homework without the
internet? Technology has impacted the modern transportation. Transportation has
become faster like individuals can move rapidly starting with one place then on to the
next. In the past, people cannot travel as rapidly as today because of not having enough
modern transportation. It takes just a few hours to travel nowadays, so this lead to
people travels more. Individuals can get information easily about their cultures like what
they wear, what they eat, and how they behave. This is how some people’s custom has
been changed. It so hard to imagine to live in the world without technology, it’s like our
lives is like a mess. Technology runs our lives these days. Smartphones, tablets and
computers – we really can’t seem to function without them. In a very short amount of
time, technology has exploded in the market and now, many people cannot imagine a
life without it.
 HOW HAS TECHNOLOGY CHANGED THE WAY WE LEARN TODAY?

We live in a world, where our life is greatly influenced by technology. It

influenced us in so many positive ways. We have phones, computers, laptop, internet
and so many gadgets that we used in terms of communications, educational purposes
and others. Technology is useful but sometimes overused. Some people are addicted to
their phones and their computers, almost their time are focus only in their gadgets.
Today’s generation is called “slave of technology” it would be right to say since morning
to night we are depends on the technology for almost all of our activities. And also all
the transportation we used today is depends on the technology. Modern technology
made it discover so many things. One of the most important changes that technology
has brought to our human life is communications. All of us can communicate across the
world in real time. Instead of going to the place of your partners to give or send your
messages, you can use your smartphones instead. Because of technology in social
media it helps us to communicate easier and more efficient. Today we use so many
sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and so many other sites enable us to instantly
share some information including videos and pictures. And also it helps people to gets
information about others backgrounds, we do is enter their names online and scroll
through such individuals profile or what we use today’s generation is like Facebook. But
not only technology change the way on how we communicates, there are so many
things that technology change our daily life, but those changes is really good or bad?

Technology has so many effects. According to Steve Johnson (2013) on his book
“Everything Bad is good for you” sited that technology is making us more intelligent due
to our means of obtaining, interpreting and processing information. It means that when
we using or doing something that involves technology have an impact to our brains.
Because we use technology our brain is work and processing more information that can
improve our knowledge. And also by the help of technology like internet, gadgets and
others it increases the information we have. Because internet connects worldwide and
because of our curiosity we make something easily discover by the help of technology.

According to Levin and Scrhum (2016) point out those students thinks of the
internet as an important way to collaborate on project work with classmates more
effectively. They referred that the internet’s provides ways of presenting material that
differs from how it is represented in class and it is also a resources that is always
available, patient and non- judgmental. In this study point out that nowadays students
are relying on the internet because they want to make things easily like doing
assignments and also project. They use internet to get some ideas, students depending
on the information they get in the internet without knowing if it is right. Sometimes
students become lazy and have no time management, so that because of lack of time
they came up of the ideas doing a copy paste in the internet or plagiarism.

According to Fallon G. (2013), in his journal “Computers and Education”, young

students nowadays using iPads. App designs and content influences on their learning
pathways. Students u

sing gadgets for their studies because it helps them to get easier in every task. And also
there are so many ways to make their work more presentable in creative ways.

Jewitt et al (2010) found that digital tools enabled teachers to post homework
and message parents about relevant tasks which they could use to assist with
homework completion. Some parents appreciated having an access to this information,
although only a few parents took up the opportunity to do so.

According to Donovan, Loretta, and Tim Green (2009), in the article "Two-Way
Mirror: Technology-Rich K-8 and Teacher Education Programs." Describe that
technology use in schools, courses, and also to the student field experiences. In this
article shows that in today’s generation even in school the way that the prof or the
teacher ways of teaching is using technology like projector. Using projector they can
easily teach and not waste of time unlike when projectors didn’t exist they only writing
on the board. Using technology teachers or professors can make the way of his or her
teaching more creative like watching his or her students a film or movie, giving pictures
and then analyze it. It can helps student to work their brains at the same time they
enjoying it not boring in terms of discussion.

According to Matt Haris, Ed. D, (2016), cited Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron
Sams (2007), in his article “Flipped Learning: What is it and how to make it Work Using
LMS” Traditional methods of learning are slipping to the background. With technology
and internet growth more and more institutions choose unconventional and modern
approaches to the education process. One of them is flipped learning or a so called
flipped classroom technique. To fill up the gaps in student’s knowledge due to the
missed classes. As a solution they discovered lesson video recording. They recorded
lectures for the absent students and posted them online. The students were free to
download and watch them whenever it was convenient. The method achieved success
and flipped learning became a regular teaching practice. Using technology it helps to
help the students who absent in class because of emergency, sick or something.
Because of flipped learning through video or recording the lesson they can cope up with
and also it is easier for them to get some notes, they also understand clearly what the
professor or teachers discuss. They can also know what are the activities they do inside
the class are. They can also make it as a reviewer.

According to Fullan (2013) suggested four criteria that schools should meet if
their use of digital technology to support increased attainment is to be successful.
These were that systems should be engaging for learners and teachers; easy to adapt
and use.

In summary for those reviews of related literature that I get are most of them
focusing on the changes of technology in term of educational purposes. It talks about
how the ways of teaching change of technology. Technology has not always been
promising within the classroom. Technology is a tool that should enhance student
learning and achievement and teachers or professors ways of teaching. And also
because of technology it connects to different information that’s helps us to get some

Information easier and also increases our knowledge. For the students technology helps
to make their work creative and efficient, and also technology gives some ideas on how
they do something like homework’s etc.

In my findings that Technology is all over and it's going to be replacing a lot of
traditional methods in the classroom. Technology affects student achievement in
positive and negative ways. And also in terms on how person communicate it’s become
high-tech and easier using gadgets and sites. Even though technology changed the way
we learned today that has so many positive impacts there are some negative effect.
Like what Levin and Scrhum said that internet as an important way to collaborate on
project work with classmates more effectively. But because of technology like internet
helps student to rely on technology it helps also students to become lazy in doing their
task. And also in Fullan said there are negative effects not all parents or students have
internet or gadgets so that sometimes because we are all depending on the internet
and we want things make easier we did not notice that someone did not get some
information. In terms in communication, yes technology helps us to communicate easier
to our love ones especially in abroad using gadgets but some people affects their
interaction personally. And also the way their messages cons tract it has effects
because of technology.

I therefore conclude that technology change us in so many ways, changes that

have positive and negative impacts but it depends on the person if he or she will used
that negative effect. Technology helps us in so many ways but sometimes people are
not responsible for their action when using technology, they overused it. For me we
must be responsible for using technology even though it helps us to something. Know
your limitation as a user of technology. We do not use technology for selfishness. We
should not rely on the internet sometimes we must try to do things without the help of
technology like using internet and gadgets. Example for games, nowadays teenagers
use online games, we must try to games outdoor. Reading in the smart phones why not
sometimes tries to read books. Technology is the technical means people use to
improve their surroundings. People use technology to improve their ability to do work. I
didn’t say that using technology is a bad thing but sometimes I think we all need a little
reminder once in a while that there is actually a real and beautiful world outside the
world of technology. Why not try to volunteer for a day instead of just sitting around
and watching TV? Or write someone a letter instead of sending them a text? Or try to
spend some quality time with your family instead of spending hours on Facebook? Yes,
we live in the world that full of technology it is hard for us to stop using technology for
a while but it depends on the person if he or she will be addicted on technology. The
technology which surrounds almost everyone in the modern society, affects both work
and leisure activities. Technology contains information that many would rather it did not
have. It influences minds in good and bad ways, and it allows people to share
information which they would otherwise not be able to attain. Even if a person does not
own a computer or have credit cards, there is information on a computer somewhere
about everyone. The technology which is just now beginning to be manipulated and
harnessed is affecting the minds of small children and adolescents in ways that could be
harmful. It is affecting our immediate future. It also gives another form of
communication and exchange of information which was not available before,
information that is both good and bad.
 TECHNOLOGY AND PAST

As a part of modern generation we all know that our life is more comfortable and
easier. As generations come and go, they each possess individual values, attitudes, and
goals that strike them apart from other generations. A gap has always been noted
between the current generation and the others before it. Acting like a barrier, it keeps
the different generations distinct. A number of factors play a role in the creation of this
barrier. The previous generations have played a big role in shaping the newest
generation by offering more help to them. Also, my generation seems to have
developed a different attitude about life and themselves. Lastly, open mindedness is
easily seen among my generation. These numerous aspects all make up my generation
and how they live today. In our generation there are so many things that happened in
communication, transportation, in education and also our lifestyle. Scientist discovers
many things and we have modern technology today. But what are the lifestyles before
modern technology exist. How they can communicate without technology? How their
lives before without technology and what are the difference between old generation
and modern generation and what is the impact of technology to those people who live
in their generation without the influenced of technology. And also if they adapt the life
style in this modern day. For me to know and compare the past generation and my
generation I interview some oldest or grandparents.

In my first interview to a grandma he recalls the way they use to send their
message, to someone or love one, because in their generation there is no technology
involved. When they going to send their messages it are a “hand written letters” they
excerpt more effort on it. And not easily to send and receive, unlike today, teenager
way of communicating is through smartphones, because of technology communication
of today’s generation because easier and faster. They can communicate in other
countries easily.
 According to Seth (2005), in her journal “Service quality models” As generations

In my second interview it tackles about how their transportation before

technology. They have a different way of going to somewhere, travel from one place to
another, to transport their food stuff by different ways. They use animals for their
transportation. Like carabao, horses. Today we know “kalesa” that’s one of the
transportation before. Until the way of transportation improved, starts with animals and
then invented in vehicle until it improve and improved, Today generations we use
trains, airplanes that can we use to travel easily, safe and comfortable, All of that is
because of technology, it helps us to make something has an improvements.

According to the article “How transportation changed the world” people did get
around before modern transportation, albeit slower. They simply walked or rode on
camels and horses. It wasn’t convenient, fast, reliable, safe or even comfortable. In
most cases, you could only go 20 miles a day and carry a limited amount on your back
or on the pack animal. But it was all that was available to get from one place to the
next to trade goods or find food and water. With the advancement in transportation
technology, the standard of living for everyone around the world has increased
dramatically. Supersonic transportation will have an equally astounding impact on the
world. Flight times will be reduced by 50%, bringing the world much closer together
and making destinations more accessible in a shorter amount of travel time.
 Next topic in my third interview is about how’s old generation inside the
classroom, or in terms in education. In her generation they only use books to answer
their homework, they go to the library, the way of teaching is writing in the black
board. Today the way of teaching has a big improvement using projectors, watching
film, and also students sometimes forget to open their books to read instead they open
their laptops; computer; smart phones and read on it like eBooks. And also in past
generation, they use newspaper to or they read to know some news, but now people
use internet to know what is trend in their country.

According to Silling (2014), modern teenagers are well educated compared of

century ago. The impact of an easy access to the education is that teenager has
become socially active and more dynamic. A past generation of teenager is lack of
access in education thus they were not every active, they are so conservative and
adhered to social norms that existed in their society.

My fourth interview is all about how they go to work before technology existed.
She said that there is technology in her generation but not yet so influence there is no
more invention. She said that when she go to work, she is a farmer, they planting rice
grain manually and then they harvest it manually. But now there are some inventions to
make their work easier and faster. And also in cooking in her generation they only use
firewood and pots. Unlike now we use electricity to cook using rice cooker.

According to Louis Efron (2017) in his article “How Technology Can Transform
Workplace Humanity” Technology in an organization today must enable people to be
more productive, efficient and innovative; stay connected internally and externally; and
feel safe and cared for. It should facilitate the comfortable and expeditious flow of
people, ideas and emotions. Technology also helps inside the workplace and also to the
employees. By the help of it people can do the task faster. And because of technology
they can innovate some product.IT also helps to connect with the client. Contact and
get some opportunity.
 In my last interview, it tackles what is he difference between the old and modern
generation in terms in clothing. In modern generation or in my generation we do or
work things so easily because of technology, we have modern tools to use, it makes our
task faster. When she was a teenager the style of her attire is not like today, a girl
should be sensitive to their skin, they use dresses that so long so that their skin not to
be seen. Their parents did not give them a permission to suit a very short dress and
also they did not use make up there are all simple even in occasions they only use light
make up. Unlike now, teenager wear a very short dress, today generation if you wear a
very short that show you’re all skin and wearing a dark make up. That is the basis of a
sexy, beautiful. I think when they doing dress they sewing it manually like the
“katutubong pananahi”, but now they use sewing machine. And also the style of
clothing today modern generation is because of internet we can connect or read some
information about other countries and then about their fashion it adapts it and because
of technology it is useful to innovate or to improve something.

In my summarization to those topic in interview and review of related literature

that in terms in communication, transportation, education, and how technology affect
the life style and fashion. In old generation it shows that it is not easier to live in their
generation but because they are already used to they survive, even though sometimes
it has struggles on their daily lives, they continue.

And also to the part where technology existed, in my generation, technology

helps us to make our life easier. In communication, education, transportation, life style
technology is the reason why it has improvement, To those invention to make our task
easier. To make us comfortable when we will travel, to contact and send messages to
our love ones. We cannot remove technology in our life because it is what we already
used. Like in past generation they survive even though there is no technology because
they didn’t experience to make their whole activities have an involvement of
technology. So that we survive because of technology, we cannot imagine life without
technology todays.
 There is a big different between the past and modern technology. The mindset
people keep changing so that they can accommodate both the technological and other
changes that occur in the world. Present youth are used technology compared before.
Some people that came from past generation they are adapting in using technology
because they are now in modern world, they also know how to use it. It is because of
millennial today, and also for me to know what are the lifestyle before technology my
grandparents and also my parents try to tell their lives before.
