1. Classroom Conditioning
(Let the teacher count 1, 2, 3) (As the teacher counts, the students will:
1 – arrange the chairs;
2 – pick up the pieces of paper; and
3 – are now ready to pray.)
2. Prayer
Let us pray. (The students will pray.)

3. Greetings
Good afternoon, class! Good afternoon, ma‟am! It‟s nice to see you.
Please be seated. Thank you.

4. Checking of Attendance
Class secretary, do we have any absent (The class secretary will report the attendance
for today? of today.)

5. Checking of Assignment
Class, do we have an assignment? Yes, ma‟am.
Kindly exchange notebook and check if
your seatmate has an assignment. Write Yes, ma‟am.
checked by and later, you will pass that
notebook. Is that clear?

b. Recall:
Teacher‟s Activity Student‟s Activity
Last Friday, we discussed about
Circulatory System and for our review, let
us have a simple game which I call “Pass
the Chip”. I have here three chips, I will
play music and while it is playing, you will Yes, ma‟am.
pass the chip. When the music stops, the
person holding the chip will answer the
question. You can answer the question by
arranging the jumbled letters. Is that clear?

Are you ready? Yes, we are ready.

topic?

Very good! This time, let us now proceed

to our new topic.

c. Motivation:
Teacher‟s Activity Student‟s Activity
Before we start discussing it, I need (The students will raise their hands to
two volunteers. volunteer.)
(The two students will go in front.)

Listen carefully to my instructions. If I

say „brain‟, you‟re going to put your
hands in your head; when I say „heart‟
place your hands at chest level, in a Yes, ma‟am.
heart shape; and when I say „touch‟,
stretch your hands sideward. Is that
clear?
(The two students will execute the actions
based on the given instruction.)

This time, let‟s do it faster. (The two students will execute the actions
based on the given instruction in a fast
manner.)
Thank you. You may now take your
seat.

Class, what can you say about the Their bodies responded quickly as you give
actions of the bodies of your two them instructions.
classmates whenever I give the
instruction?

Very good! Based on the responds of

their bodies, we can conclude that the
human body has the ability to control Nervous System.
and coordinate activities. Which organ
system do you think is responsible for
this characteristic?

Perfect!

d. Lesson Proper:
Teacher‟s Activity Student‟s Activity
1. Pre-Activity:
The nervous system enables the body to
respond quickly to change in the
environment by accomplishing its
functions. Now, let us find out what are
the functions of the nervous system by
having this very simple activity which I Yes, ma‟am.
called “Which is Which!” I will flash
two functions then I want you to
analyse and determine which among
the two functions is the function of the
nervous system. Did you get it?

Very good! Let‟s start.

1. It exchanges gases between the external
environment and the blood. Function #2. It gathers information both from
2. It gathers information both from the the outside world and from the inside of the
outside world and from the inside of the body.
body.

Very good! How about the next one?

1. It transmits information to the

processing areas in the brain and spinal Function #1. It transmits information to the
cord. processing areas in the brain and spinal cord.
2. It produces hormones that regulate the
activities of cells and organisms.

Exactly! Next, is it function #1 or

function #2?

1. It processes information to determine

the best response. Function #1. It processes information to
2. It digests and absorbs nutrients from determine the best response.
the food.

Brilliant! Lastly, is it function #1 or

function #2?

1. It maintains posture and position of the

body. Function #2. It sends information to muscles,
2. It sends information to muscles, glands, glands, and organs so they can respond
and organs so they can respond correctly.
correctly.

Excellent, class!

To learn more about the nervous

system, let us have a group activity. I
prepared envelopes for each group
containing the materials and
procedures.

Before we proceed to our activity, let

us discuss first the rubrics for the
activity.

Rubrics for Differentiated Activities

Presentation
For concept:

5 – concept is clearly evident; contains all

necessary information
4 – concept is evident; contains most of the
necessary information
3 – concept is acceptable; contains some
necessary information
2 – concept is limited; insufficient necessary
information
1 – lack of concept; does not contain necessary
information

For cooperation:

5 – all members of the group cooperate well

with each other
4 – only 5-6 members cooperate with each
other
3 – only 3-4 members cooperate with the each
other
2 – only 2 members cooperate with each other
1 – only 1 member of the group do the work

For presentation:

5 – executes the work competently; well-

prepared
4 – executes the work adequately; prepared
3 – executes the work fairly; somewhat
prepared
2 – executes the work incompetently;
unprepared
1 – executes the work poorly; unprepared

rubrics?

Make your chairs in circle.

If your group is ready, kindly do a (Each group will clap.)

ready clap.

You are given 10 minutes to work for

your activity.

2. Activity Proper:

Group 1 – importance of the Nervous

System in the form of a jingle.

Group 2 – give the different divisions

and parts of the nervous system by
completing the graphic organizer.
Group 3 – arrange the puzzle, label, and
tell the functions of the three main parts
of the brain.

Group 4 – role play about problems and

disorders of the Nervous System.

3. Post-Activity: Yes, Ma‟am. We are all ready.

Are you ready for the presentation? (The students will present their work.)

Very good, class! Give yourself a:

1. Amazing clap
2. Mommy Dionisia clap (The students will clap.)
3. Kiss Your Brain clap
4. PakBet clap

4. Discussion:
Based on the activity, what are the two The Central Nervous System and Peripheral
main divisions of the Nervous System? Nervous System.

How will you differentiate the two? The Central Nervous System is the main
processing center for the entire nervous system
while the Peripheral Nervous System connects
the Central Nervous System to the organs.

Very good! Our bodies coordinated

because we have a Central Nervous The brain functions as organizer and
System. It is consists of the brain and distributor of the information for the body.
spinal cord. What do you think is the
function of the brain?

Good! The brain is divided into three The cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem.
major parts. What are those?

Exactly! The cerebrum is the largest

part of the brain; it is where learning,
intelligence, and judgment occur. The
cerebellum coordinates voluntary
muscle movements and maintains
balance and muscle tone. The
brainstem controls the heartbeat,
breathing, and blood pressure and
coordinates involuntary muscle
movements.

The Peripheral Nervous System has The Somatic System and the Autonomic
two main divisions. What are those System.
two?
How will you differentiate the two? The Somatic System is associated with the
voluntary control of body movements while
the Autonomic System is associated with the
involuntary control of body movements.

Great! The Somatic System has two The spinal nerves carry motor and sensory
main parts: the spinal nerves and signals between the spinal cord of the body
cranial nerves. How will you while the cranial nerves carry information into
differentiate the two parts? and out of the body.

Excellent! The other division which is The Sympathetic division and the
the Autonomic System has Parasympathetic division.
subdivisions. What are those?

Very good! The Sympathetic division is

activated in times of physical or
emotional stress or whenever the body
requires action. It controls the “fight-
or-flight” response that you experience
during a stressful situation like the
nervousness you experience when
talking in front of an audience or taking
a surprise quiz.

The Parasympathetic division maintains

body functions and restores the body to
normal or relaxed mode.

Any questions? None, ma‟am.

5. Generalization:
This time, let us play a game entitled
“Fact or Bluff”. I will give you sets of
statements and you‟re going to analyse Yes, ma‟am.
it whether it is true or not. If it is true,
raise the paper with the word „fact‟ and
„bluff‟ if otherwise. Is that clear?

Are you ready? Yes, Ma‟am.

Questions: Answers:
- Central Nervous System is - Fact
composed of the brain and the
spinal cord.
- You are frightened. This will cause
to activate your Parasympathetic - Bluff
Nervous System.
- Cerebrum, Cerebellum, and
Brainstem are the three main parts - Fact
of the brain.
- Spinal nerve is a tube-like organ of
- Bluff
neurons and blood vessels.
- Autonomic Nervous System is a - Fact
division of Peripheral Nervous
System that controls contractions of
the heart muscle.

Any questions so far? None, ma‟am.

6. Application
Class, kindly give some problems and (Some expected answers are the following :)
disorders of the nervous system? - Alzheimer‟s Disease
- Amnesia
- Comatose
- Insomnia
- Migraine
7. Valuing
How can you keep your nervous system (Some expected answers are the following :)
healthy? - Sleep early.
- Exercise regularly.
- Eat a balanced diet.
- Get plenty of rest.
- Do not use alcohol.
- Drink plenty of water.

IV. Evaluation:
Analyse the statements below and give the correct answer.

1. It is the main control center of the nervous system.

2. It is the largest part of the brain.
3. It receives and sends out information about activities within the body and monitors
and responds to changes in the environment.
4. It is consists of cranial and spinal nerves.
5. It maintains body functions and restores the body to normal or relaxed mode.
6. It controls the heartbeat, breathing, and blood pressure and coordinates involuntary
muscle movements.
7. It is associated with the involuntary control of body movements.
8. It connects the Central Nervous System to the organs.
9. It is the organizer and distributor of the information of the body.
10. It carry information into and out of the body.

V. Agreement
