Saving The environment
Awareness and benefits of saving the
environment

I chose this topic because I wanted to share my concerns on the way the
environment is being mistreated and I also wanted to inform my audience on
what they can do themselves to help save the planet. I also wanted to make our
well known park Andulka clean. So I went to pick up trash in the park and I also
went up the street to a plaza up the street and picked up trash there as well.
What I hoped to learn

I hoped to learn more about ways people can clean pollution in the ocean. Not
actually picking up trash by the beach but to actually get rid of pollution in the
ocean. It’s a goal I hope to achieve in the future, but not now. I also hoped to
learn other ways to not use as much plastic.
Problem/interest/concern
The problem that I was hoping to address was how much the ocean is being
polluted . Tons of marine life are dying due to waste in the ocean. Turtles
confuse plastic bags for jellyfish and they eat them and die because of it .Not
just that but a lot of waste is on land as well. It’s affecting humans as well.plastic
waste is the biggest issue around. My goal was to inform my audience ways they
can help to make the earth a safer and cleaner place.I also wanted to inform my
audience the benefits there is to recycling and picking up trash that is laying
around. My main concern was how unsanitary our Parks and attractions look
because of the trash laying on the ground.
Solution

The solution I realized I could do is pick up trash, inform my audience on ways to

help the environment, and The benefits of it. My solution worked perfectly. I
started by having my partner record me talking about the options of how to save
the environment. I started recycling any plastic bottles we saw laying
around. After recording those videos were recorded . I moved onto picking up
trash to make our parks look nicer and cleaner
The Steps I first planned in the beginning

At the beginning of this project , my main idea for it was to make skits with my
partner. We planned on writing our ideas down and then actually doing them.We
then planned on informing our audience about ways they can also help save the
environment. Our final plan was to pick up trash and make the place we picked
up the trash at a more cleaner and better looking place.
Obstacles

we weren’t liking the way we expressed our ideas to the camera on some of the
videos. We wanted a more serious way to entertain and inform our audience at
the same time so we slightly changed the idea of skits to picking up trash and
informing.
Steps
The steps I took was to first write down my ideas and then to
actually make them. The first video was a skit. Then I moved
onto picking up trash and after that I moved onto spreading
awareness on how our environment is being effected and
finally I moved onto informing my audience on ways they can
make a change to help the environment.
Accomplishments

What I accomplished to do is pick up trash at Andulka park and also around

Ralph’s by canyon crest. I also accomplished to spread awareness and make
skits. The skits were my idea towards entertaining and to spread awareness to
my audience.
Making a change

I started to notice many plastic bottles were affecting our environment so I

decided to start using carton made bottles instead of plastic bottles. I did this for
about a week and it was a great experience. The production of bottled water uses
17 million barrels of oil a year. That’s slightly more than it would take to fill one
million cars a year with fuel. Each day, people in the U.S. throw away more than
60 million plastic water bottles, most of which end up in landfills or as litter in
America’s streets, parks and waterways.Plastic water bottles are made from a
petroleum product called polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which requires giant
amounts of fossil fuels to make and transport.
Quitting
I quit using plastic straws ever since I found out they’re the 11th most found
trash in the ocean. It takes up 200 years for a plastic straw to decompose and
they can’t be recycled in most places.Disposable straws are usually made from
plastic and plastic never breaks down. As time goes by plastic will separate into
smaller and smaller pieces, but never completely biodegrades. In USA alone, 500
million straws are used every single day. We use straws for around twenty
minutes before we toss them away, which is an astonishingly quick lifespan for
an item that will be on the planet forever. Straws also contain BPA, and can't be
recycled.
Recycling

Me and my partner have been recycling bottles.Any plastic bottles that we have
seen laying around,we would pick up.80 percent of the plastic water bottles we buy end up in landfills.
U.S. landfills are overflowing with more than 2 million tons of discarded water bottles. It takes up to 1,000 years for every
single bottle of water to decompose. Each bottle leaks harmful chemicals into our environment along the way as it
decomposes. The next slide will have the picture I took.
Benefits

Recycling conserves natural resources

Recycling protects ecosystems and wildlife

Recycling saves energy

Making products from recycled materials requires less energy than making them from new raw materials. Sometimes it's
a huge difference in energy – for example:
● Producing new aluminium from old (including recycled cans and foil) uses 95% less energy than making it from
scratch. For steel it's about a 70% energy saving.
● Making paper from pulped recycled paper uses 40% less energy than making it from virgin wood fibres.
● The amount of energy saved from recycling one glass bottle could power an old 100-watt light bulb for 4 hours –
and a new low-energy LED equivalent for a lot longer.
Benefits

Recycling reduces landfill waste

Dumping our rubbish in landfill tips is hugely wasteful. Imagine all the potentially useful reusable stuff that's been buried
over the decades. It's a waste of good waste.
Landfill also pollutes soil and water by leaching noxious and toxic liquids over time. Landfill also releases greenhouse
gases, like methane, into the atmosphere. And of course it takes up valuable land space.
