METHODOLOGY

a.) RESEARCH DESIGN

The researchers will conduct a survey research design best served to answer the questions

and the purpose of the study. A survey is a research method used for collecting data from a group

of respondents to gather information and insights on various topic of interest. It can be done by

distributing questionnaires and in a form of one-to-one in depth interview. By doing so, we are to

conduct a survey and distribute questionnaires around City Camp Central (Lagoon) to further

understand their situation regarding their level of awareness and compliance about the solid

waste management law (RA 9003)

The survey will give the researchers a better understanding regarding the solid waste

management of city camp central and to determine the positive and negative effects of it to the

environment and the people.

b.) POPULATION OF THE STUDY

The researchers will use stratified random sampling to choose the respondents. Stratified random

sampling is a method of sampling involving the division of a population into smaller groups also

known as strata. Stratified random sampling or stratification are formed based on members’

shared attributes and characteristics. The targeted respondents will be the residents of city camp

central and some of the barangay officials. According to the data released by the department of

health (DOH) as of 2016 the population of city camp central is 2,314.The number of

respondents was computed using Slovins formula resulting to a sample size of 330.
c.) DATA GATHERING TOOL

The survey is composed of questionnaires and a thorough interview guide that will be given

to the students of Saint Louis Inc. (Center). The Likert Scale will be used in the questionnaires.

Likert (1932) developed the principle of measuring attitudes by asking people to respond to a

series of statements and questions about a topic, in terms of the extent to which they agree with

them, and so tapping into the cognitive and affective components of attitudes. Having the Likert-

type scale has the advantage of getting more detailed answer rather than a yes or no answer

offering them five to seven pre-coded responses allowing them to express how they agree or

disagree with a particular question or statement. It also offers anonymity reducing the social

pressure and social desirability bias. (Mcleod, S. 2018)

d.) DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

The data gathering procedure is done by floating questionnaires among the residents and

some officials of City Camp Central. Upon approval of the questionnaires signed by the

researchers, principal and research adviser, a brief discussion will be done followed by the

distribution of questionnaires among the respondents. After answering the questionnaires, it must

be collected afterwards.

The interview will be done whenever the interviewees are ready to answer the questions.

Some of the researchers will ask questions to the interviewees and are given an ample amount of

time to answer. There will be follow up questions afterwards

e.) TREATMENT OF DATA

The surveys done in the Likert-type scale and interviews will be kept hidden and

confidential between the researchers and respondents/ interviewees. The tallied data and results

of the questionnaires will be treated with the measurement central tendency which is the

median.Median is the is determined by sorting the data set from lowest to highest values and

taking the data point in the middle of the sequence .The median can also be determined for

ordinal data as well as interval and ratio data. Unlike the mean the median is not influenced by

outliers at the extremes of the data set.A thematic analysis will be used to analyze qualitative

data gathered through the interview. The researchers will be professional in treating private

information, keeping it hidden and will be used for research purposes only. The findings
