Section C - Gorong royong to clean a river

Set 1
Last Sunday morning, the teachers and pupils of SK Jitra gathered at the river banks
near their school. They wanted to take part in the gotong royong to clean the river.
The teachers and pupils walked along the river banks and picked up the rubbish
they came across. They put the rubbish into the baskets and plastic bags. When the
baskets and bags were full, they buried the rubbish in a hole. Later, they spent some
time playing in the river.
When they have finished, they were served some food prepared by the
organizers. The organizers thanked them for their effort in cleaning the river. They
hoped the river will always be clean.

Set 2 - Regretful boy study hard


Ali is a playful boy. He never took serious about his study. He watched television
whenever he was free. In the end, he failed in his Year 5 final examination. He was
scolded by his parents.
Ali realised his mistakes. Since then, he changed his attitude. He studied hard.
He did his homework and did not watch television anymore. He also discussed with his
friends about his lesson.
The next year, he was well prepared for UPSR examination. He passed with
flying colours. He thanked his teacher and friends. Ali was very happy and his parents
were very proud of him.

Set 3 Farmer
Pak Ali lives in Brinchang, Cameron Higlands. He has a big vegetable farm. Every
morning he goes early to his farm.
He grows a lot of vegetables such as cabbages, carrots and brinjals. They are
fresh and green. Pak Ali waters them every day to keep them healthy. His workers
always help him to harvest the vegetables. Pak Ali sells his vegetables to many big
hotels in Cameron Highland. The hotels prefer to buy his vegetables because they are
always fresh. He also sells his vegetables to whole sellers from Kuala Lumpur.
Pak Ali plans to plant more vegetable. He hopes he can expand his farm and
business.
Set 4 - Flood in a village
Last week, it rained heavily in Kampung Berjaya. After a few hours, the river
water rose slowly. The villagers were worried. They packed their belongings and
prepared to move out of their houses.
Later, the river water flooded the village. The villagers took along some food and
clothes and moved to higher ground. The women and children were evacuated in boats
while the men waded through the water. They were transferred to the school which
became an evacuation centre.
The villagers were given some food and clothes by the rescuers. They had to
sleep there for two days until the water resided. Later, they went back home.

Set 5 Toothache
Last week, during recess, suddenly Ali felt some pain in one of his tooth. He couldn't
stand it. His friend informed the class teacher. The teacher called his mother and she
came to pick him up.
They went to see the dentist. At first, Ali refused to go. He was scared but his
mother persuaded him. The dentist examined his teeth and found a decayed tooth. He
extracted the tooth while they were chatting. Then, he advised Ali to take care of his
teeth and avoid eating sweet food.
When they reached home, his mother cooked porridge for him. He couldn't go to
school the next day. His friend visited him and helped him with the homework.

Set 6 Burglary
Last school holidays, Mr. Lim and his family went to Penang for a vacation. They
had a great vacation there.
When they returned home, they were shocked to see that the front grill has been
forced opened. They quickly went into the house and saw that it was in a mess. Mr. Lim
quickly called the police and reported the incident. Later, the policemen arrived. Some
of them took fingerprints around the house while the others look for clues. They took
some photographs.
Mr. Lim was asked to list the missing items. They identified and listed the missing
item. He handed the list to the police. The police promised they would investigate the
burglary.
Set 7 Thunderstorm
There was a thunderstorm in Kota Setar last week. It rained heavily and followed with
thunder and lightning. It lasted for a few hours. Some of the roads were flooded.
Some motorcyclists had to take shelter under the overhead bridges. The
pedestrians on the road side used umbrellas but they got wet because it was windy.
They waded the water to go to their places.
Luckily, the policemen were there to help control the traffic. The vehicles moved
slowly on the flooded road. Later that evening, the rain stopped. Everybody was
relieved.

Set 8
Last weekend, my friends and I took a ride in a train from Kajang to Seremban. We
gathered at the train station early in the morning. We were very excited.
It was fun. The scenery along the tracks was very beautiful. The train also went
through a tunnel. It was dark and smokey. There were many people in the train. The
weather was fine. The ride took about two hours to reach our destination.
We got down at the Seremban train station. After spending our time walking
around the town, we took a bus back to Kajang.

Set 9 - Watching badminton match


Last weekend, I went to Putra Stadium at Bukit Jalil with my father. We went
there to watch a badminton match between Malaysia and Indonesia.
We took a commuter to go there. The stadium was packed with supporters from
both sides. Everybody clapped and cheered for their team. It was an exciting match and
the players gave their best. I was very nervous watching the players fought for every
point.
In the end, the Malaysian team beat the Indonesians. My father and I were very
happy because of the results.
Set 10
One fine morning, Ali was cycling to the library. On the way, he found a purse at
the roadside. He picked it curiously.
Ali opened the purse. To his surprise, he saw a lot of money in it. Without
hesitation, he rushed to the nearest police station. He handed the purse to the police
officer and told him about how he found it. The police officer praised him for his honesty.
He promised to return it to the owner.
Later, Ali came home. He told his parents about the incident. His parents were
very proud of him. It was unforgettable day for him.

Set 11
Last Sunday, Sarah was waiting for the bus. She was going to town. She saw a
woman walking towards her. She looked very pale.
Suddenly, the woman fainted and fell on the pathway. Without second thought,
Sarah rushed to help the woman. Luckily there was a car passing by. Sarah quickly
stopped it and asked the driver's help. Then, they took the woman to the nearby clinic
for treatment.
The woman told them that she did not have enough sleep and rest. The woman thanked
Sarah and the man for helping her. The man sent them to their destination.

Set 12
It was a windy day. The wind blew strongly. It blew Ali's hat. The hat flew across
the road. At once, he ran after it.
At the same time, a boy was cycling fast on the road. On seeing Ali, he tried to
avoid him. Unfortunately, the boy skidded into some bushes. A few boys saw the
incident. Without second thought, they helped the boy to get up. Luckily, he was not
injured.
Ali apologized to the boy. Later, the boys sent him home. It was unforgettable
day for him.
Set 13
One morning, Abu was driving to his office. On the way, he saw an accident at
the junction. He stopped his car to see what had happened.
Without hesitation, Abu called the ambulance and the police station. Ten minutes
later, the ambulance and a police patrol car arrived at the scene. People were getting
crowded. At once, they helped and gave emergency treatment to the victim.
The ambulance took the victim to the hospital for treatment. Abu was glad to help
the victim. He continued his driving. It was an unforgettable day for him.

Set 14
It was a fine day. Hakim was climbing a tree. He was trying to take his hat. It stuck on
the branch of the tree.
Suddenly, the branch broke. Hakim fell in the river. Being panicked, he shouted
loudly for help. A boy heard his shout. Without wasting anytime, he jumped into river.
He managed to save Hakim from drowning.
Hakim was very glad and thankful to the boy. He promised to himself he would
be more careful next day. It was unforgettable day for him.

Set 15 UPSR 2007 Sec C


Last week, a few children visited an old woman in her old wooden house. She
was very poor. She was also very weak to clean the house. The children felt pity for her
and decided to help her.
First, the boys repaired the house. They replaced the broken and old wooden
planks with new ones. After that they painted the walls. The girls cleaned the
compound. They threw away dried leaves and swept the floor. They also tidied the
house and added some furniture.
Finally, they finished their work. The old woman was grateful and thanked the
boys. They were very happy.

Set 16
Encik Jamil is in a barber shop. He is having his hair cut. The barber is using a pair of
scissors to cut his hair.
Mr Tan is sitting next to Encik Jamil. He is having his hair washed. There is a
brush and two bottles of shampoo on the shelf. The chair next to Mr Tan is empty.
There is a clock on the wall behind them. Encik Jamil and Mr Tan were chatting while
the two barbers do their work.
After half an hour, the barbers had finished their work. They were satisfied with
their hair cutting.

Set 17 UPSR 2008


One day, my mother went to a workshop to service her car. It broke down the day
before. She knew the mechanic.
The mechanic opened the bonnet and checked the engine. There was a tool kit
near him. My mother sat on a chair and read a magazine while waiting. There were
many tyres on the shelf. One of the workers was arranging them. The other worker was
mopping the floor. He had an old cap on his head.
After the car was serviced, my mother talked to the mechanic. He told her about
the car. Then she went home happily.

Set 18
Last Friday, my Science teacher Puan Siti asked Sarah and her friends to make a pickle
papaya as their Science project. They were very excited. They brought the things
needed.
On that day, they started the project. The girls peeled the papaya and cut it into small
thin pieces. Then, they dried the pieces of papaya and put them into a clean container.
Next, they added some vinegar and sugar and stirred the mixture well with a spoon.
After a few days, the pickled papaya was ready. They tasted it. It was delicious.
They gave some pickled papaya to their teacher.
