CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

This chapter presents two sections, conclusions and suggestions. The conclusions

were drawn based on the formulated research question. It comprises the final conclusion

of objective in this research. Besides, in the second section, some suggestions in regard

to the research are provided for other related parties.

5.1 Conclussions

According to the findings and discussion in the previous chapter, some

conclusions related to the maxim flouting uttered by all the characters in Hotel

Transylvania 2 movie can be drawn as follows.

In relation with the first objective which is describing the types of flouting

maxim performed by the characters in Hotel Transylvania 2 movie, it can be

concluded that the characters in the movie flout all types of maxim. There are 68

times of floating maxim occurre in the movie. There are four types of flouting

maxim. They are floating maxim of quality, floating maxim of quantity, floating

maxim of relation and floating maxim of manner.

From the four maxim flouting, the most dominant flouting maxim uttered by

the characters in the movie are flouting maxim of quantity, it occurs 27 times

(39.71%). The second rank of floating maxim is floating maxim of relation, occurs

18 times (26.47%). The third rank of floating maxim is floating maxim of manner,

occurs 16 times (23.53%). And the last the type of flouting maxim having the lowest

rank in the occurrences is flouting maxim of quality, it is only 7 times (10.29%).

5.2 Suggestions

In this section, some suggestions in regard to the research were provided for

some related part as follows.

For the other researchers who have an interesting in conducting a research with

the same topic relating to floating maxim are suggested to analyze other aspects besides

types, such as strategies, and functions of floating maxim. In addition, the researchers

can relate this topic with other topics in pragmatics such as deixis, reference and

inference, presupposition and entailment, speech act, politeness or impoliteness. It can

also be related to other branches of linguistics such as sociolinguistics to enrich the

analysis.

For the readers of this research are suggested to be more aware to the

phenomenon called flouting maxim because it is a part of everyday life and it often

happens in daily conversation. By being more aware with the phenomenon, readers can

be more sensitive in understanding the implied meanings that are uttered by flouting

maxim. Meanwhile, when the readers want to utter something but expect the hearer to

find the real meaning, they can understand more about the strategies that can be used.
