RESUMO
T h i s s t u d y i d e n t i f i e s t h e p r o d u c t i o n o f p s yc h o l o g i c a l w a r f a r e i n t h e
writings of military sociology of Morris Janowitz through his
participation in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), and after the
end of World War II of his work with the Unite d States Department of
Defense (DoD). It aims to identify the influence of these theories in the
formation of the institutional discourse adopted by the military
government of 64. It is little known and exploited the participation of
Janowitz about the activities of intelligence and counterinformation
carried out by the American government. This study opens new
paradigms about the action of the theories used in Brazil during the
Military Regime established since 1964. The counterguerrilla struggle
becomes from the 60s a constant in the conflicts around the world,
impelled by national liberation struggles, also developed in the context
o f i d e o l o g i c a l s t r u g g l e s . I t i s o n t h i s b a t t l e f i e l d t h a t p s yc h o l o g i c a l
warfare activities will play their greater role, which as we shall see,
influenced the Brazilian military ethos itself by giving identity to the
institutional discourse of struggles of an entire generation: the struggle
against communism.
