However, when he got home that night, he forgot all about the old lady
downstairs. Bang! He threw his first shoes on the floor. This bang reminded him of
the promise he had made this morning. So he put down the other shoe as softly
as he could. Then he went to bed.

One morning, as he got to work, the lady complained to him. “Mr. Walker, I
know you are a young man, and cannot be as quiet as older people. but there is
one thing I have to say. Would you please not throw your shoes down with such a
noise when you take them off ? I am a bad sleeper. I cannot get any rest until I
have heard you take off your shoes every night.”

After a while the old lady knocked at his door and said, “Would you please
take off the other shoe? I am waiting for you to throw it down. I want to rest.”

At this, Mr. Walker said an apology to her, and he promised her not to do so
afterward. Then he went away.

Mr. Walker was a journalist. He worked for a newspaper. He lived in a flat on
the top of an old building. As he worked by night, he came home very late. when
he came home very late, he took off his shoes and threw them down on the
wooden floor, making such a noise that an old lady who lived below him in the
same flat was very much disturbed by it.

explained to the police officer that he did not know the name of his motel, but he
did know the name of the street where his motel was. He then showed him the

said the Swiss. “If you cannot remember them all, you shall have to copy them in
your notebook.”

“I wish to go sight-seeing in the city,” he said to the owner of the motel,
“but I am afraid I shall get lost.”

So the Italian left the motel. When he came to the first corner, he copied the
name of the street in his notebook. Then he walked on. Finally he got lost.

stayed in a motel owned by a Swiss who could speak Italian very well.

However, the gentlemen knew how to make her do what he wished. For
example, at Christmas one year he wanted to make a feast for his friends. Did he
say so to her? No, he didn’t. he said quite the opposite.

“How can I make a feast without any nice food ?” she said. “I’ll buy all kinds
of delicious food that I can buy.”

The gentleman was very pleased. When Christmas came, there was all he
wished. He ate and drank with his guests. He enjoyed the feast very much, and so
did the guests.

whatever he said. If he expected her to say “yes”, she would say “no”. If he
expected to say “no”, she would say “yes”. If he asked her to do something, she
would do nothing. If he told her not to do something, she would do it.

It turned out that Sangkuriang had supernatural power. With a little help from his
supernatural friends, he managed to make the dam and was finishing the boat.
dayang Sumbi was shocked to see the horrible truth for she couldn't marry her
own son. She called all the women in the village to flame torches, pound the rice-
mothers and make the roosters crow. Sangkuriang thought it had been dawn and
got very angry. He kicked the unfinished boat. it flew to the sky and fell aground
upturned on the spot where it can be seen to this day. Bushes and trees grew up
on the boat and became a mountain called Tangkuban Parahu, which means the
Upturned boat.

One day she got pregnant and the King exiled her and the dog to the jungle. In
jungle, she gave birth to a boy which later called Sangkuriang. The son turned out
to be a good hunter. However he made a mistake that made his mother furious;
he killed the dog. Dayang Sumbi bit her son in the head and expelled him with a
ferocious scar.

Sangkuriang was the son of dayang Sumbi, the foster princess of King Sungging
Perbangkara of Pasundan. The King made a special but in the backyard of the
palace for Dayang Sumbi to weave because she was good at weaving. She was
accompanied by the royal dog named Si Tumang.

Years passed and the grown up Sangkuriang who had acquired fame and fortune
met dayang Sumbi. They fell in love with each other until one day she discovered
the scar on his head and his real identity. To solve the awkward impasee, she set
him an impossible task, Sangkuriang had to dam Citarum River and build a boat
for crossing the resulting lake. All bad to be accomplished in one night between
sunset and sunrise. Sangkuriang agreed.

It turned a love story because bandung Bondowoso had crush on Roro Jonggrang
and proposed to her. It was hard for her either to accept or reject bandung
Bondowoso's love. To avoid more violence, Roro Jonggrang commanded bandung
to build a thousand tempels in one night. It seemed to be an impossible to fulfil,
but Bandung Bondowoso accepted it.

In the place where the Prambanan Temple standsnow, there was a Kingdom called
 Prambanan. Roro Jonggrang (means Slender Maiden) was the princess of the
kingdom. The people of Prambanan Kingdom were wealthy and lived in peace.

Bandung Bondowoso was enraged and frustrated his nearly-successful effort had
failed. he wooed Roro Jongggrang to stone. And according to the tale, she remains
here in the northern chamber of the Prambanan Temple, as a statue of Shiva's
consort, Durga. The temples built by Bandung Bondowoso are now called candi
Sewu (The Thousand Temples)

This made the neighbouring Pengging Kingdom envious. led by Bandung
Bondowoso, they attacked Prambanan Kingdom and killed the King. The
Prambanan Kingdom was defeated and bandung Bondowoso became the new
king.

Calling up his supernatural friend, bandung Bondowoso tried to perform the task.
Roro Jonggrang found out that he almost made it. She ordered the women to
pound the rice-mother and awaken the roosters to prematurely announce the
dawn. Bandung Bondowoso's friend were deceived by the false dawn. they ran
out, thinking it had already been morning.
