M. Ben-daya & M. Hariga(2010) We develop a continuous review inventory model where lead-time is
considered as a controllable variable. Lead-time is decomposed into all its components: set-up time,
processing time and non-productive time. These components reflect the set-up cost reduction, lot size
lead-time interaction and lead-time crashing, respectively. The learning effect in the production process
is also included in the processing time component of the lead-time. The finite investment approach for
lead-time and set-up cost reduction and their joint optimization, in addition to the lot size lead-time
interaction, introduce a realistic direction in lead-time management and control. A numerical example
and a sensitivity analysis are presented using the design of experiments to investigate the effect of the
model parameters and, in particular, those related to the different lead-time components on the the
expected total cost. “Lead-time reduction in a stochastic inventory system with learning consideration”,

Hau L. Lee, Kamran Moinzadeh(2006) In this article we have generalized previous models on
multiechelon recoverable inventory systems to cover the cases of batch ordering and shipment policy,
and when items can either be repaired or condemned. The batch ordering and shipment policy is
appropriate when the setup cost for shipment and order and/or the demand rates of the items are
relatively high. The operating characteristics of such a system have been studied. Specifically, the
probability distribution of backorder levels at the bases are analyzed for different repair-time
distributions. An approximation scheme is proposed for this distribution, and is evaluated using
extensive simulation results. The results indicate that the scheme is very effective in providing near-
optimal stocking levels in such a system. “Operating characteristics of a two-echelon inventory system
for repairable and consumable items under batch ordering and shipment policy.”,

Timothy S. Vaughan(2007) The introduction of unit perishability has significant effect on inventory
policy for a large number of commodities. A significant amount of research has been presented which
addresses the trade-offs between ordering, carrying, shortage, and outdate costs for perishable
inventory. A model of the perishable inventory system which incorporates the effects of consumer-
realized product expiration. This model represents a synthesis of two distinct directions in the perishable
inventory literature, and addresses the simultaneous determination of inventory ordering and outdate
policy for a perishable item with random demand and random lifetime. “Introduction to model of the
Perishable Inventory “,

N.K. Paul(2006) in his article, 'Inventory Control' has stressed the necessity of inventory control and has
stated that the rate of return on capital improves with reduction in the inventory. Paul, 'Inventory
Control', Management Accountant, Vol. 6, No. 4, April, 2006, p. 211.
P.C. Basu(2005) in his paper, 'Better stores management - An urgent necessity for Industrial
Development of India' has stated that planned stocking of raw materials is very important for carrying
on production function efficiently. He observes that due importance has not been attached to the
aspect of Inventory Management in India until now and has stated that such a situation has arisen
mainly because of the fact that the managers of the Indian Industries in general are not very conscious
of the impact on the cost structure of the commodities produced by them and it results from the
mismanagement of Raw Materials Inventory. He has also stated the measures to achieve the objectives
such as efficient planning of procurement and storing functions and adopting measures of cost control
in the areas of purchasing, storing and consumption. Basu, 'Better Stores Management - An Urgent
Necessity for Industrial Development of India'. Management Account Vol. 13, No. 10, October 2005. p.
841.

S.W. Pereira(2005) in his paper, 'spare parts Management Transport undertakings-Material

Budgeting'^^ has stressed importance of spare parts management in Transport Undertakings. He has
also stated that more than a lack of buses will be owned and operated by either Government or Quasi
Government undertakings. Likewise, the vehicles used for transporting goods also would be increasing
in number. While this vehicle demand is on the waxing, the manufacturers may not be in a position to
meet the demand fully. In this context he has suggested that extending the life of vehicles by proper use
of spares would therefore be important. He has also stated that in the context of scarce financial
resources and low internal generation of funds in the transport sector, it becomes necessary to establish
a high level of inventory control in materials management. Perira, 'Spare Parts Management in
Transport Undertakings - Material Budgeting', The Management Accountant, Vol.13, No. 9, Sept. 200 p.

R. Chellappa(2007) in his study, "Inventory Management in Electricity Board"'^^ has analyzed the
inventory control system in Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, their administration of stores, purchase of
stores, maintenance of stores and the like. Chellappa, 'Inventory Management in Electricity Board',

K. Nisar Ahmed(2007 )in his study, "Review of inventory control at National Co-operative Sugar Mills

value and suggested the feasibility of disposing them. Radharkrishnan, Study of Slow-moving and Non-
moving Inventory in BHEL, Trichy'.

S. Karuppiah(2007) in his study entitled, "A study on Inventory control of spares for Agricultural
machineries with special references to Bulldozers''^^ has emphasised the functioning of inventory
control systems in Agricultural Engineering Department. The thesis entitled "A study of inventory control
in Anna Transport Corporation Limited, Salem" undertaken by N. Ramani analyses the working of the
