Installation How-to:

Note: You must use IE, Edge, or possibly Firefox for the web access to
the management side. Chrome won’t work for the management – it does
not show all the information you need but it looks like it does.
1. Download Xibo for Windows at Http://xibo.org.uk
2. Download Xampp 5.6 for Windows (7.2 hasn’t been tested)
3. Install Xampp and start Apache
4. Extract Xibo and copy it into the htdocs folder in the Xampp on C:\
5. Rename the Xibo-cms-1.x.x to Xibo
6. Install ZeroMQ
7. Php.ini changes
a. Find required extensions that have an “x” and go to the php.ini and enable them
b. Adjust post_max_size to 128 so should read post_max_size=128m
c. Adjust max_execution_time to 120 seconds so should read max_execution_time=120
8. If all tests well you will see “NEXT” – click on this
a. Click the “Create new database”
b. Host is “localhost”
c. Admin Username is root
d. Admin password is blank
e. Database name is “xibo”
f. Database username is “admin”
g. Database password – our example is “Liberty-1” (set your own and write it down)
h. Click “Next”
i. Admin Username is “admin”
j. Admin password is “Liberty-1” ” (set your own and write it down)
k. Click “Next”
9. Library Location (provide a path to where you want the library stored) in this example it is
located on c:\htdocs\x_library. It will be created if it does not exist.
10. Note the server key (in our case QYxq5z) You can find this in the player settings so don’t worry.
11. After clicking “Next” you will be taken to the sign in page with the default admin and password.
12. Click “Login” - if successful you will be in the management console of Xibo – Congratulations.
13. Now you need to install the Xibo Player Client – Note: this will cause it to launch each time you
start up the PC. You can use the “Windows” key and close the window followed immediately by
opening taskmanager and killing the xibo watchdog that will continue to reopen it.
Steps to Installing Xibo Player on a Microsoft OS (Windows 10)
Download the Xibo Player client from Xibo
a. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvkmSVc9CXU
b. Download Xibo-client and install
i. Localhost is used if installed on the same machine as the Xibo CMS
ii. It will show that it is waiting approval from an administrator
c. Adding display (approving a display)
i. You see “ Display added and is awaiting licensing approval from an
Administrator
ii. Go to the Display screen in the CMS and edit the display to add the licenses key
– click where it says “License Display” and change the No to Yes.
d. Note: The new player has a xibowatchdog service that auto launches the player if it is
closed for any reason. To kill this process so you can work on other things you can kill it
from the task manager. When you launch the player again it will launch the watchdog
again.
e. Once it is licensed you can assign layouts, schedules, etc. to that display or place it in a
group that allows all of that group to play the same content.

The Manual with instruction is located at: http://xibo.org.uk/manual/en/index.html

VNC – Use Tight VNC to remote to the desktop because it allows us to make changes while it is still live.

HDMI over Ethernet streams to each location form a central server but you can also use individual
computers or try RasberryPi devices to create individual displays that have their own scheduled layouts.

Standard Best Buy Televisions or Commercial Grade digital TVs both work well. Note buy TVs that can be
set to auto turn on and off on a schedule.

If you want to have a youtube video launch and play immediately you can insert the following:
?rel=0&autoplay=1 added immediately after the embedded url of a youtube video causes it to
play when it comes to that piece.
Example: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/u9NZ034ZO-
0?rel=0&autoplay=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
