TITLE
R-S FLIP FLOPS NOR Gate in Logic IC 7402

OBJECTIVE
1) To construct basic circuit of flip flop using basic gates
2) To investigate the operation of flip flops
3) To determine the input and the output states of the circuits constructed

EQUIPMENTS/COMPONENTS
1) Power supply of 9V DC output
2) Multimeter
3) Bread boards
4) Logic IC’s: 7402 (1pc)
5) Light Emitting Diode (4pc)
6) Resistors: 330 ohm (4pc)
7) Toggle switches (4pc)

LITERATURE REVIEW OF THE CIRCUIT

For this experiment, we construct a circuit NOR- Gate in logic IC 7402. The
switches are labelled as R and S. while the LED is labelled as output Q and Q
bar. The logic IC is placed in the middle of the bread boards. All of this
components are connected to the input power supply of 9V DC output. Then we
complete the truth table that given by monitoring the output using the LED
display

DISCUSSION

SUMMARY OF EXPERIMENT
when logic 1 is applied to the S toggle switch, the green LED will light up, that
means output Q is in logic 1 and the condition is SET. After that, when the
toggle switch is applied to logic 0, the green LED will still light up, that means
the condition is not change. When the logic 1 is applied to the R toggle switch,
the green LED will off and the orange LED will light up, that means the output
Q bar is in logic 1 and the condition is RESET. When logic 1 is applied to both
f the toggle switch S and R both Q and Q bar outputs go to logic 0 and the
condition is invalid. This condition explains that the components are
complement each other. In normal operation both inputs must be avoided from
activating it to logic 1 simultaneously.

COMPARISON BETWEEN EXPERIMENT RESULT AND THEORY

RESULT
The truth table shows that when the logic 1 is applied to s inputs the Q output
will light up and the condition is SET. While when the logic 1 is applied to the
R inputs, the Q bar output will light up and the condition is RESET.

Theory result truth table.

S R Q Qbar Condition
0 0 0 1 No change
0 1 0 1 Reset
1 0 1 0 Set
1 1 1 1 Invalid

Experiment result truth table

Input Output
R S Q Qbar Condition
0 0 1 0 SET
0 1 1 0 TAK UBAH
0 0 1 0 TAK UBAH
1 0 0 1 RESET
0 0 0 1 TAK UBAH
1 1 0 0 TAK LOGIK
0 1 1 0 SET
0 0 1 0 TAK UBAH

there are many difference in result between theory result and experiment result.
The problems we can see clearly in this result are the invalid condition of
experiment., as we know when the condition is invalid both LED in output Q
and output Q bar is 0 but the theory table show that the invalid condition for
output Q and Q bar is 1
POSSIBLE FAILURES DURING EXPERIMENT
1) The connection on the breadboard is loosen
2) The diode is broken
3) Components such as toggle switch and LED are not connected to the right
places
4) Forgot to connect the supply with IC

STEPS TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEMS

1) Make sure the connection on the breadboard is tight
2) Inform to the lecturer about the broken diode to exchange the broken
diode into a new one
3) Make sure the all of the components are connected correctly based on the
figure of the lab sheet given
4) Connect the IC with the power supply to make the device work perfectly

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, this lab introduce a student to design or build their own flip flop
using IC 7402 . besides that, student also can complete the truth table that given
by monitoring the output using LED display. Student also know how the
operation of flip flop in the IC using the basic gates which is NOR gates. Lastly,
student can determine the output and the input of the circuit constructed
