Objectives

1. To analyze the investor awareness towards mutual fund investment in Chennai.


2. To study the influence of age on investment decision.
3. To analyze the risk tolerance level of mutual fund investors.
4. To study the factor influencing the investors in mutual fund schemes.
5. To study the level of satisfaction on the investment of mutual fund investors.

Scope of the study

The scope of the study is to ascertain the investor’s awareness, preferences, risk tolerance
level and their level of satisfaction towards different Mutual fund schemes. Keeping in view the
various constraints the scope of the study is limited only to the investors residing in Chennai.
The research would reveal results about awareness of the various investment pattern about
Mutual fund and give the organization a clue or a lead to improve the marketing of mutual fund.

Limitation of the study

The sampling technique which was used is convenience sampling, so the study was
concluded only in and around a part of Chennai city which may not be representative of the
entire population. The raw data was collected with the help of structured questionnaire
technique. Therefore this study is bound by the limitation of this technique. The analysis is based
on the data provided by the respondents. The view of those did not participate in the survey is
not included. As the survey was pertaining to their investment habit, the respondents may have
with held some sensitive information the study was constrained by limitations of time.

Research Methodology

Research design

The research design should clearly point out as to whether the study is descriptive. It
should also specify whether it is statistical or experimental design. The research design that has
been adopted for the study is descriptive. The methodology involved in this design is mostly
qualitative in nature.

Questionnaire design

The basic cardinal rules of questionnaire design like using simple and clear words. The
logical and sequential arrangement of questions has been taken care of.

Data sources

Data was collected through primary and secondary data resources, primary data was
collected through a questionnaire. The research was done in the form of personal interviews.
Primary data

A primary data is a data which is collected for the first time for a particular interest to
have more information. The primary data is collected with the help of questionnaire from end
users in Chennai city.

Secondary data

Secondary data consists of information that already exists somewhere purpose, secondary
is collected from company websites, magazines, books, brochures and other related websites.

Pilot study

A pilot study was made to identify the deficiencies and short comings if any in the
questionnaire and some small changes were made. The pilot study were conducted for
respondents and the questionnaire was fine tuned and revised.

Sampling techniques

The sampling technique used was under non-probability convenience sampling. Salaried
executives, Business executives, Prospective executive, professionals and retired people were the
target respondents group from which the data were collected.

Percentage analysis

This is a univariate analysis where the percentage of a particular factor with different
categories are calculated, on order to help one get a fair idea regarding the sample and thereby of
population.
