Weatherproof Calling Bell:

Earlier we use normal piano type switches, which are not suitable for outdoor use. During rainy
season, it becomes potentially hazardous item. To eliminate the risk, we were using the same switch
using a makeshift enclosure with a small cut-out for operation. At present we are using C&S make,
weatherproof outdoor push switch with combi, which is compiled to IP55 type enclosure.

Temporary Distribution board arrangement:

In our earlier arrangement, we use temporary power supply board without any earth leakage
protection, using multiple long length cables from a single source/supply in a unsafe manner. A
portable power distribution board has been made with proper earth leakage protection and multiple
output controlled MCBs. This DB has been provided with rain guard for outdoor use.

Transformer HV-Neutral bar cover:

In our earlier system, the HV-Neutral bars of the transformer used to be kept in bare condition or
wrapped up with HT tape, considering the same remains in earth potential. But during passage of
any faults, its potential may rise beyond human acceptable limit. To avoid any such inadvertent
accidental condition, it has been shielded with perforated metal sheets, which ensure the
inaccessibility of the neutral bar.

Transformer guard rail:

For various maintenance works, we need to get access on the top of the power transformer,
especially on the narrow/curved surface of the 220 kV /132 kV cable boxes etc., without any
protection from working at height. To eliminate the risk, guard rail has been fixed around the
peripheral area of the top lid edges. This guard rail is consists of 2 layers, up to a height of
approximate 1 meter above the top lid. This helps in anchoring of safety belt while working on the
top of transformer.

Wooden Shovel:

Cable spikes happened in the past during forced lifting of protective tiles from ground, underneath
which lied energised HT or LT cables. Spikes not only caused damage to CESC property but also
caused injuries to workers. Such cable spikes were caused due to the use of iron spades and flat
head pik axes which easily pierced through the outer sheath of the age old worn out cables. These
days, once we find protective tiles inside a trench we start clearing the earth covering it with a
WOODEN SHOVEL and lift the cable protection tile with the WOODEN CROWBAR. Not only it reduces
risk of spiking drastically but also ensures that no metallic surface comes in contact with the
energised cable, most of which are found worn out conditions after lying for many years. These tools
may look primitive but serves the modern generation in a smart way.
