Special focus issue on nursing informatics: Challenges of utilizing

electronic health records

Electronic health records (EHR) is a documentation tool that im-
proves the quality and safety of patient care. However, certain chal-
lenges are experienced by nurses. This Special Focus Issue aims to
collect novel nursing informatics research and case report that
highlight the challenges of utilizing electronic health records, spe-
cifically EHR relevant nursing practices, interventions, evaluations,
policies, theories, etc. This special issue welcomes original research
papers, perspectives, conceptual papers, case reports, systematic
review, and scoping review articles that address a range of topics
including, but are not limited to, the following areas:
 engaging nurses in EHR's design, development, analysis,
implementation, evaluation, revision, etc.
 methods for retrieving data from EHR to support evidence-
based nursing practice and training
 workflow analysis and redesign
 disparities between “digital native” vs “digital immigrant”
nurses' use of EHR
 unintended consequences of nurses' use of EHR
 developing and validating theories of using EHR to improve
quality and safety
 outcomes of interest to patients and the quality of care when
nurses use EHR
 ethical and policy studies focusing on nurses' use of EHR
Manuscripts should be submitted through the standard process
following to the Guide for Authors which can be found at https://
www.elsevier.com/journals/international-journal-of-nursing-
sciences/2096-6296/guide-for-authors. Submit under Special
Issue: EHR. All papers will be subject to the standard double-
blind peer review and editorial processes of the journal. You are
recommended to email an inquiry letter to our guest editor, Dr.
Shuhong Luo before writing a manuscript. In the letter, you can
briefly describe the ideas and topics you plan to cover. Deadline
