Topic: Housework

Time: 50 minutes

Skills: reading, speaking, writing

Materials: pictures, posters, workbook, poster of a “kitchen robot”

Aims: at the end of the lesson, students will:

-be able to discriminate among household activities

-improve their vocabulary with words and expressions related to chores

- use a text in order to answer questions related to it

-solve any exercises given by the teacher

Introductory moment followed by checking the homework

Activity 1: warm-up: brainstorming

During previous classes students have been introduced to various everyday activities.

Procedure: the T draws five circles on the blackboard and inside each circle the name of a room Is writer.
Ss come in turn to write at least two activities that can take place in each room.

e.g.

Kitchen Bedroom Living room

-cook -eat -sleep -relax -watch tv

-drink coffee -play -play -eat


Bathroom

-have a shower

-have a bath-
brush your teeth

-brush

Activity 2: the T says there is a room in the house she hates and asks the Ss to guess which
is it and they eventually guess it is the kitchen. But the T also says she saw something interesting on TV
and she sticks on the board a poster of Robocook.

At first, Ss need to describe Robocook.

e.g. it is big

it has five arms

For each arm, there is a piece of paper with the name of the activity Robocook can perform. Five
students come to the blackboard and stick the right activity next to the appropriate arm.

A: clean/sweep the floor

B: lay the table

C: cook dinner

D: wash the dishes

E: put the dishes away

Next, Ss are asked to think about other activities that Robocook might do around the house.

e.g. cook the barbecue/ make the beds/ do your homework

Activity 3:

Students receive a worksheet with daily activities. First, they have to read a short text and answer the
questions.

Post activity: the T asks the Ss what would be their ideal daily programme.

Homework: draw your own Robohelp and say what he can do around the house.

Topic: Expressing likes and dislikes: Present Simple

Skills: reading, speaking, writing

Materials: worksheets, workbook

Aims: at the end of the lesson, students will:

-be able to form questions using the Simple Present

-be able to express likes and dislikes

-improve their reading skills

-improve their reading comprehension

Introductory moment followed by checking homework

Activity 1:

Ss work in groups and they have to put a story in the right order. Pieces of paper with parts of the story
are randomly given among groups, so they have to pay attention to what the others read.

After reading the text, they are asked to retell it orally. A post reading activity will be answering a few
questions on the text.

1. What do donkeys have to do every day?

2. What do donkeys want to do instead of work?

3. Who do the donkeys ask for help?

4. What idea does the wise man have?


5. Why doesn’t the wise man paint all the donkeys?

The teacher then asks a last question: Do donkeys like being donkeys?

In this manner Ss get to their second activity, in order to express likes and dislikes.

Activity 2:

Ss are given a worksheet with “Likes and Dislikes”. They have three exercises that they need to
complete. After each exercise is completed, they check it orally. Using as model exercise two,
they need to make a table in which to include two types of food and two everyday activities, and
make a survey, asking five of their colleagues for information in order to complete the table.
