Create Parts Customer Training Material

• Break the Geometry into Parts

– Turn off the VALVESPHERE part in the Model tree. This will expose the Valve
Inside
– Create a new Part,, VALVE and add the 4 surfaces of the valve head to this Part

• The model tree and these separate parts makes it easier to visualize segments of the model
• Separate INLET and OUTLET Parts are essential to apply individual boundary conditions

Create Material Point Customer Training Material

• We want to create a Body in order to define the Part that

the volume mesh will be assigned to
• This is done by defining a point inside of the volume and
assigning a part to this point
• Select Geometry > Create Body
– Enter FLUID_MATL as the Part name
– Click on Material Point
– Select 2 screen locations as shown,
shown then middle click
– Right click to exit operation
– Turn on Geometry > Bodies in model tree
– Rotate the geometry on the screen to ensure the material point is inside the
region to mesh – inside the main cylinders and outside the rod

Build Topology Customer Training Material

• Remember that curves and points act as constraints

to the mesher, so let’s remove curves and points
which are not required to define geometry
– Geometry -> > Repair Geometry -> > Build Diagnostic

– Filter by angle: Turn on Filter points and Filter curves
– Set

– Default: New Part Name is set to Inherited
– Accept other defaults and Click Apply

Many curves
are filtered out

Only essential
feature curves
remain

Global Mesh Size Customer Training Material

• Set the max volume element size in the

domain

• Mesh > Global Mesh Setup > Global Mesh Size

– Set Max element = 64
– Click Apply

• This is a very large element size but the mesh

will be refined based on surface sizing performed
in the next step
