Forehand Drills

Move it Out
- Students work in pairs with one feeder and one hitter
- The hitter starts nice and close to the net (approx.. 2m from net) and the feeder remains on
the service box line on the other side of the court
- The feeder softly throws a ball to the hitter who hits it
back over the net with a forehand shot
- After 2 shots, the hitter then takes a large step
backwards
- The feeder then feeds two more shots for the hitter who
then takes another step back
- Students continue until the hitter has completed 10 shots
- Students rotate roles
Progression
- Start further back
- Increase number of shots
- Add a target area the ball must land in to increase difficultly
KTPS
- Racquet begins in neutral position then taken back using a circular swing
- Stepping forward
- Follow through from low to high
- Ball trajectory is over the net

5 Forehands

- The hitter begins at the baseline
- The feeder feeds 5 consecutive balls to the hitter
- The hitter is to hit each ball, moving closer to the net each time

- Increase balls shots are fed
- Change playing area

- Follow through from low to high
- Movement towards the ball and net

Building Blocks
- Students work in pairs on opposite sides on either side of the net
- Student 1 serves the ball (can be bounce serve) to student 2
- Student 2 returns the ball with a forehand to student 1 who
stops the ball (2 shot rally)
- Student 2 now serves to student 1 who returns with a forehand
to student 2, who follows with a forehand to student 1 who
traps the ball (3 shot rally)
- Students continue this progress, aiming to build the number of
shots in each rally
- Aim to achieve a 10 shot rally by the end

- Students work in pairs on opposite sides on either side of the net
- A cone is positioned towards the base of the court, acting as a
target for their opponent
- All students on one side of the court form team A and students
on the other side form team B
- Students begin the rally with a serve for their opponent to
return with a forehand
- Students continue the rally, aiming for their opponents’ cone
- For every cone hit, a point is awarded
- After a given time, students within team A and team B tally their
points to determine a winner
Progression
- Manipulate the placement of the cones
- Manipulate for a doubles game
- Include backhand shots
