7 December 2018 Educational benefits of Small classes

A major factor for a student's learning is the size of the classes they are in. The smaller

the class, the better the educational experience will be for teachers and students. This is

important because a smaller class could make it easier for students to get into college and pursue

their future. Small class sizes are beneficial to students because teachers will have more time to

help individually with students. Also, smaller classes could limit distractions for students.

Finally, another good reason is that test scores are proven to be better and this leads to good

grades and a better future for students.

First, teachers will get to spend more time with students to help individually if needed.

“If you want teachers to attend to the needs of all students, you have to make it possible for them

to work with small groups and individuals”. With less students' teachers could get through

lessons much faster and more efficient, which will give them more time to go around and help

students. To go with this, they could take their time if teaching a lesson if they need to as well

depending on how well the students are doing. With this extra help being available this could be

a big factor in helping students get better grades. This would overall help them do better in

everything, especially tests. Also, teachers would have more flexibility to use different

instructional approaches. Also, with having more time teachers could go more in depth in a

lesson and use supplementary texts and enrichment activities.” In the Newsweek 2007 list of top

high schools in the U.S, 22 of the top 100 schools had fewer than 100 students in their graduating
class”. Small class sizes are more beneficial to every student and can be more beneficial to

teachers, which will create the best all-around experience for everyone.

Next, having smaller classes could limit distractions in the classroom and help with

overall test scores for most students. There will be less students in the room which means that it

would be harder to get sidetracked by talking to other students. The students can be spaced out

around the room if needed so it is harder for them to talk to each other which will make it easier

for them to focus. With these smaller classes as well, lower achieving kids would be able to pay

better attention with less kids and this will benefit their future instead of giving them a reason to

not pay attention.” lower-achieving students in particular can benefit from smaller classes at the

high school level”. Also another study proved that people with lower income families and kids it

benefits their learning abilities with less kids because they can be more comfortable and be less

distracted. This applies for most people though, because a study proved that smaller class sizes

significantly improve test scores and also life outcomes because doing good in class will lead to

being able to go to a good college which will then help students get good jobs and have a

successful life. This study says that if class sizes are increased it will decrease their chances of

doing good in school. If there is a problem with people distracting the class, it will be easier for

the teacher to find who's distracting other students and deal with the problem. Another good

thing is that students will participate more because there is less risk of them being embarrassed to

answer, which will make it easier for them to learn things and remember them. Another reason

less students is good is because most of them will learn better and for the ones who don’t, these

students can help each other by teaching them how to do it if the teacher is busy. Smaller class

sizes are more beneficial when it comes to distractions in the classroom.

There are some things that people think are negative about smaller class sizes. The first

thing people think is that this would require more teachers. This may be the case for some

schools but a solution to this problem would be to just space out the classes with different

students throughout the day. If placed correctly throughout the day, there can be less students per

class. Also, another solution could be to send students to different schools if possible, that could

make the population small enough to have small classes. This would help most school districts

because it means they wouldn’t have to pay as many teachers. Next, every state could raise the

amount citizen's pay for school taxes so every school would have a high enough budget to hire

more teachers. This isn’t the best solution because it would not work for every school, this may

be the biggest problem when it comes to funding because of shortened classes.

Another negative thing people seem to think is that the teachers hired would be less

experienced. This may be true in some cases, but teachers obviously must start out their career

somewhere, which means this will happen at some schools. Over time those inexperienced

teachers will become more comfortable and be better teachers, but most people aren’t patient

enough to wait for this to happen, but that’s exactly how the best teachers became as good as

they are now. If parents are worried about how experienced a teacher is then it could affect the

teacher, if they are patient and let them do their job then this would be fine. If people go to a

prolific learning school, like a private school they most likely wouldn’t have this problem

because schools like that really don’t hire many inexperienced teachers. Also, normally these

schools will have enough money to hire the best teachers because they are normally private

schools.

A major factor for a student's learning is the size of the classes they are in. With less

students' teachers will be able to help students who are having trouble learning the curriculum. If
students are doing well with the curriculum then teachers would be able to advance faster and

start to teach enrichment if they are permitted to. Test scores in smaller schools and classes are

proven to be better than schools with large classes, and with small classes people have grown up

to be good at their jobs and allows them to have steady income and a successful life. Also, there

will be less distractions in a smaller class. Having less kids in the classroom creates the best

learning environment for students and sets them up the best way for a successful future.
