Meet Your Business Committee
Thank You Mill Valley Businesses!
Thanks to the strength of our community and the hard work of our Business Committee, more than
150 local businesses have become Kiddo! Business Partners for the 2010-2011 school year, generously
committing financial support to the important programs that Kiddo! funds in our schools. We could not
do it without them.

Kiddo! Business Partners – How it works:

Throughout the year, Kiddo! Business Committee
volunteers are responsible for identifying and recruiting
new businesses, as well as maintaining our relationships
with our existing Business Partners. Much of the work
involves educating local business owners about the im-
portance of Kiddo! programs in our schools and sharing
with them the benefits of partnering with Kiddo! From
early spring through September, the Business Committee
contacts new and current business partners by mail and
in person. The personal touch makes the work rewarding.
“It’s wonderful to get to know some of our local business
leaders. We’re truly very fortunate to live in a community
where many small businesses understand the importance
of supporting the schools and our community” said Becky
Business Programs Manager, Patty Flax
Business Committee Chair, Becky Houha Houha, Chairman of the Business Committee.
pflax@kiddo.org, becky.houha@comcast.net

Our Business Partners are recognized at school sites and during school events. They are listed in the
School District Directory, published in the Mill Valley Herald Honor Roll and are listed according to do-
nation level on the Kiddo! website. In addition, Business Partners receive a framed certificate and photo to
display in their business, and of course, they receive the much coveted “I’m a Kiddo! Business Partner”decal
to place in their windows.
Check out our Business Partners page to get a list of our current business partners at the Classroom
Plus level and up. Some of our Business Partners have generously offered to raise additional funds for our
children through special business promotions. Look for them every month in this newsletter. Many of our
Kiddo! Business Partners count on you for business. We in turn count on our Business Partners’ dona-
tions, and of course our kids in MVSD benefit directly from their support. Please thank them the next
time you are in their store or use their services.
To find out how to become a Business Partner, contact Patty Flax@Kiddo! 389-7792, business@kiddo.org.
Annual Campaign News Annual Campaign Still Needs Your Support
As of today, 58% of our school families have made their 2010 donations to
Kiddo! To those supporters we say “Thank You” for helping us get closer to
our $2.2 million goal for this year. But we are not there yet.
Because of the dramatic decline in state funding and property tax revenues,
our community needs 100% participation from all families in order to fund
teachers and programs in 2010-2011.
Kiddo! requests a donation of $950 per child for annual programs. Our community benefits from
donations of any amount, so please make the most generous donation you can today.
Your financial support will pay for teachers and programs in all five of our elementary schools and our
middle school for this school year. Art, music, dance, poetry, library and classroom aides are all funded
entirely by our parent community through Kiddo!
Thanks again to all who have contributed to Kiddo! to make our schools great. Donate online
at www.kiddo.org, mail your contribution to Kiddo!, 409 Sycamore Ave., Mill Valley, 94941,
or call the Kiddo! office at 389-7789 to arrange for an installment plan that meets your family’s needs.

From the Classroom Kim Tran is one of three art teachers at MVMS. She teaches 6th graders traditional fine art
disciplines including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics and sculpture. Her curriculum
emphasizes exploration, allowing students to investigate a variety of experiences and concepts.

Kim also teaches a Digital Art class in the 6th grade Wheel Program which introduces MVMS
students to Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
The photos below help to illustrate a current Digital Art assignment entitled “Wacky Wardrobe.”
This hands-on learning lets students explore the many features of Adobe Photoshop, while allowing them
the creativity to reinvent and express their “virtual selves.” See our website for more student images.
