Transitioning from high school to college has been a true learning experience. I have

learned the differences between high school and college. My first semester of college is over, I

see changes in my behavior, by the way I react to situations. Also, I have a better attention span

than I did in high school, in high school I rarely paid attention. While in high school the teacher

always remined you when upcoming assignments were due, they helped you to make up missed

work and studying is usually done in class to insure your success.

My first day of class was hard for me to get up on time, especially since I go used to the

summer, while at home my parents would wake me up on time. When I arrived in class my

teacher told me that she would let me enter the class room this time but the next time she

wouldn’t let me enter unless I had a valid excuse. All I could remember was when I was in high

school the teacher would let me in. My friends told me the professors are already paid so they

don’t have any intentions on getting to know you, even though some do depending on the class

size. In high school the teachers knew everyone by name and the class rooms sizes are 30-35

students in one class room, while in college a class room can be up to 40-50 students.

Another thing I noticed while being in college is that student is responsible for having all

supplies necessary to pass the class and if you decided to miss a day, the responsibility of making

up the assignment is on you, and the professors not going to remind you either. High school
students are supplied with material every step of the way from books, paper, and testing

materials. I developed better study habits. In high school I would often study at the last minute

knowing that the teacher would review for the test right before the test to insure we pass, but

college I often study all my subjects and know the tested material, afterwards I feel confident

during test time.

Being here in college I noticed the professors often don’t write notes on the bored to be

copied my students. All the things you will cover will be in the syllabus along with all the power

point presentations. Studying relies on the student and its best to look over PowerPoints to get

ahead of the next week in class. Classes here are spread out over the week during different times,

and some are short and to the point while others are long with a lecture.

In conclusion my college experience has been great and full of memories. There have

been many changes in my mood and behavior, also the way I view the world from different

prospective, even though when I first arrived here It was a struggle to get settled in and I wasn’t

aware of the things I am now. college has had an impact on my life. I will continue to work hard

and stride for the best out of myself.
