What are the functions of the BCPC?
(Based on DILG-MC 2002-121)
The BCPC shall have the following functions:
Foster education of every child.
Take steps to prevent juvenile delinquency and assist parents of
children with behavioral problems so that they can get expert
advice.
Adopt measures for health of children.
Conduct capability building projects to increase knowledge and
skills in handling children’s program.
Encourage the proper performance of the duties and
responsibilities of parents, and provide learning opportunities
on the adequate rearing of children and positive parent-child
relationship.
Promote wholesome entertainment in the community,
especially in movie houses.
Prepare AWFP for children and recommend appropriations to
the Sanggunian.
Provide coordinative linkages with other agencies & institutions
in the planning, monitoring & evaluation of plans for children.
Establish and maintain database on children in the barangay.
Advocate for the establishment and maintenance of
playgrounds, Day Care Centers and other facilities necessary for
child & youth development.

Advocate for the passage of barangay resolution/ordinances
responsive to child-related issues and concerns and ensure the
inclusion of children’s program in the executive agenda.
Protect and assist children in need of special protection (e.g.
abandoned, maltreated & dependents) and refer cases filed
against child abusers to proper agencies and institutions.
Monitoring situational reports on children & prepare quarterly
updates including the implementation of children’s program &
make recommendations to the City/Municipal CPC for
consideration & nationwide application.
Perform such other functions & other child related laws
especially in matters of child and parent’s education, health,
entertainment, etc.
